Mark Surette went into cardiac arrest about 200 feet from the entrance to the Veterans Affairs hospital in Bay Pines, Fla.

The St. Petersburg Times says paramedics were at his side within four minutes. So were VA doctors. While they worked to resuscitate the 51-year-old, the paper says someone called the nearby VA hospital.

This doesn't surprise me. Military hospitals take a lot of flack because they cause so many problems. A friend of mine was diagnosed at Portsmouth Naval Hospital with Meningitis and sent home. He was told he was not contageious because it was "viral, not bacterial." Well. A few people close to him contracted Meningitis because it WAS bacterial. The Naval Hospital refused to treat the patients because of their mis-diagnosis because they were not military.

So in all, because one doctor made the wrong diagnosis, seven people were hospitalized.
