I suspect that most Sarah Palin fans are googling William Buckley Jr. after they read this post.

Out of the number of influential conservatives that are out there, what criteria did you use to pick only Sarah Palin as the '11 version of Bill Buckley?

If you're being genuine, what could possibly make you think that a large number of Obama fans wouldn't have to do the same re using Google.

If you look at a map of heavy voting areas for Obama I suspect there would be a large number of people who couldn't properly spell William Buckley Jr. much less know who he was or what he was about.

They are very far apart. Buckley was not as socially conservative as Palin.

It was a question not a comment. I suggested her because she appears to be one of the most well known and popular conservatives out there.

I'd like to play but your question just doesn't make sense to me.

Their similarities that you observe are much too subtle for me, I guess.

Palin's a household name; not only popular with many but absolutely vilified and kept alive by her many detractors.

I don't see how Buckley fits in. Maybe there's just too much nuance here

Have fun with your thread, however.

Buckley was a thinker, Palin is a personality.

Buckley actually took a boat to international waters to legally smoke pot so he could intelligently speak about drug laws. That would have been some great conversation!

Palin just reads what she is given.

LOL. One of the best deflections I've seen recently.

Default I don't think there are any contemporary William Buckley's

It was two questions really. How hard is it to answer whom you felt was the current version of Buckley?

I can't think of anyone under 70 who would qualify as a younger version of Bill Buckley. Conservatism has changed dramatically since his heyday.
