The survey also found the suicide rate among women who had an abortion was six times higher than for women who had given birth in the prior year and double that of women who had miscarriages.

This is six years old.

The study has been rebutted by other studies which directly contradict these findings.

Finland does have a very high suicide rate, though. However, given the high suicide rate there, there are clearly multiple factors involved. Whether there is a relationship has been challenged in countries where suicide is not such an issue. And the Finnish study does nothing to establish a causative relationship.

It is a fact that the suicide rate in Scandinavian countries is higher than average. Many psychologists link this high rate with the weather pattern (i.e. Seasonal Affective Disorder). Not abortions.

To those of you who have come to my defense, please know that I am one tough cookie, and I would not have waded into this quagmire of a discussion if I wasn't absolutely sure that I could handle it. I am completely at peace with my decision to abort and the procedure I chose to terminate my pregnancy, bringing my child's life to an end. I'm not afraid to take responsibility for my actions, and I fully understand, in a way few others do, what abortion means.

I share my story because I think too few women who've been through what I've been through are willing to speak up. Partly, it's exhaustion with extremism. I just don't have much patience with people on both sides who refuse to see abortion as anything other than black & white. But as I've gotten older, I've come to realize that I must speak up for the women who come after me. If I don't do it, who will?

The reality is that I am one the faces of abortion: an educated, happily-married, monogamous woman who found out the hard way that nature can be incredibly cruel.

Calvinist, you don't need to apologize to me. I respect your strong beliefs, and I appreciate the opportunity to engage in a difficult conversation. I see no reason for your comments to be deleted.

Back to the study, I believe the results are valid, but the interpretation is not.
