Some excerpts:
Quote:
So here we are pouring shiploads of cash into yet another war, this time in Libya, while simultaneously demolishing school budgets, closing libraries, laying off teachers and police officers, and generally letting the bottom fall out of the quality of life here at home.

Quote:
The U.S. has not just misplaced its priorities. When the most powerful country ever to inhabit the earth finds it so easy to plunge into the horror of warfare but almost impossible to find adequate work for its people or to properly educate its young, it has lost its way entirely.

Quote:
Overwhelming imbalances in wealth and income inevitably result in enormous imbalances of political power. So the corporations and the very wealthy continue to do well. The employment crisis never gets addressed. The wars never end. And nation-building never gets a foothold here at home.

The piece is worth reading. He is right. This country has lost its way, and is now in a death spiral. Our leadership has been and continues to play us as fools. Maybe we are, we keep falling for their ploys and diversions and vote them into power.
We're dumping obscene amounts of money into the military-industrial complex, just as Eisenhower warned. We throw our weight around and police the world, send our own money all over the world as foreign aid. Wall Street flushed us down the toilet, and rather than being punished, is rewarded with our tax money via bailouts! We are letting our own country crumble around us, yet have this never ending 'nation building' mission. Washington has their hands deeper than ever in the pockets of the elite. And through all this, they create scapegoats to keep our attention and fury focused elsewhere (those damn evil teachers and middle class union workers! The horror!)
Well, now I need a drink!
