I too wish that he felt that he could have gone to Congress and actually been able to get a quick and reasoned consensus. Do you really think that would have been possible in the current political environment? There used to be times when he could have, but now? The Pres has to do what is right, he has no option. He does not have the luxury of playing politics on all decisions.
Well he certainly swung and missed on that front. You know what would be right? Getting our damned noses out of everyone's business. Taking the expense from war or "military action" and keeping it in house. You know what would be right? Stop propping up these third world dictators in the first place. There are a lot of right options and Obama completely missed on all of them.
So refreshing to watch and listen to an articulate, intelligent president make the case for the short campaign to support NATO in Libya. He's full of character and substance, doesn't hide the ball, precisely expressed the mission in clear terms, and defined the parameters that were met. We didn't go to war with Libya. We supported NATO in helping other allies by lending short-term support. What a stark difference from the acts of the village idiot from Texas. In essence, the president did what Republicans prayed that he wouldn't do: succeeded. Another exceptional speech!
By comparison, the shameful Republican George Bush lied to go to WAR then indicated through Rumsfeld that the "shock and awe" display would last a few weeks. An incredible flaw in the conservative ideology to pompously presume that such a quick show of military force would be more than enough to change the ideology of those proud people. When it obviously didn't work, to continue the ineffective, misguided, and excessive campaign while this country was bleeding to death...was unforgiveable.
Face it Pubs, this president is too much for your nonsense and has thus far proven to be an effective leader. Life is precious. Don't waste it being in denial.
Yeah, he can read a good speech. However, I have to take issue with mr obama's "substance." I watched the speech and still can't tell you why we are involved or how our position on libya relates to the rest of the middle east. Mr obama's middle east policy is still just as muddled as it was to begin with. I'm also quite concerned that the is involved in yet another shooting war and congress hasn't even debated the issue. Is this what american liberals/leftists/assorted marxists consider "legal?"
a really interesting post, but what i don't understand is why the US fights so hard to stop its own oil development while funding oil development in other countries. (BRAZIL FOR ONE)
Why? It's quite simple. The oilmen and moneymen (speculators) can make more money elsewhere. bale002 nails it, Obama is a mouth-piece for the oilmen and moneymen.
It WILL make a difference to the oilmen and moneymen. They want Obama re-elected to continue their agenda.
Well you can be sure the oilmen and moneymen will be pumping millions into the GOP collection plate to cover all of their bases. Nothing will change except the letter behind the name.
We change the letter behind the leader, that makes all the difference to most people it seems.
I believe the last two Presidents we've elected (BushII and Obama) campaigned on peace and non-interventionism. It was also amazing to watch their supporters, who supported peace during the election, become warhawks. Now it's amazing to watch their "opposition" flip flop. Those who stand for nothing fall for anything.
