"...now you find 50 billion dollars to cut."

Republicans should man up and cut $50 billion from their stereotypical, untouchable "pet project", defense spending, then tell the Democrats to slash $50 billion from their stereotypical "pet programs." It's like a challenge that the Dems cannot refuse, if they want to save face, that is...

What am I missing?
I'd rather see the US take care of its citizenry than defense contractors.
YMMV.

Yes, there is a lot of waste in defense. But it's hardly a "pet project". Protecting our country is the most important job of our government.

The Dems don't want to save face. They're in the same spot that unions are right now - they see their precious power slipping, and there's nothing they can do about it. So they're falling back on the only thing they have - attack the other side. It's what happens when you have nothing.

Now, get out of Iraq, Libya, etc.....

Abolish the notion of a standing army. That would save billions. The army should only be created when there is a declared war. The navy (and marines) and airforce can monitor things until an "invasion" is needed. Close the bases overseas and bring the troops home.

You think the military is the only one capable of inventing modern killing machines? With a weekend on my hands, I could make...well I won't say what I could make for obvious reasons.

LOL

There's A LOT more in the defense budget we could cut than 50 billion, that's a drop in the bucket.

You build your army when it is needed. The army has become a "jobs program" when we are not at war.
