We own a small business and most of our workers are independent contractors....but we also have employees.

With the changes in Soc. Security taxes we ended up paying hire wages, so does this government really think companies will start hiring...

On top of that most companies have discovered that many people can do more in the same time as they thought prior and don't need additional liabilities unless they get more clients through the door.

With the gas prices as high as they are and no ceiling seems to be reached....people rather save than get broke later on!

How are you paying "hire" (higher) wages? The 2% cut that used to go to SS goes to the employee now. The gross amount of wages paid is the same.

You make a good point. Often businesses (and indiviuals and families) do not realize they can do as much or more with less until circumstances force them to cut back. I think a lot of businesses have learned in this economic downturn that even with a reduced work staff their productivity has not been affected. In other words there was a lot of fat that the bad economy has forced them to trim and they are better for it.

A lot of contracts that I have been on have been like this. I see lots of the employees doing a lot of non-work related stuff. The bigger the organization, the more people that get paid for very little value. The older workers tend to be the worst violators. I refer to them as the "we bees". Their attitude is "We be here when you got here and we be here when you go!".

If there is an employer with more than 3-4 employees they get to buy them all health insurance under Obama. That will close down a ton of smaller businesses.

I know

We don't provide health care and my employees understand....

We pay for our self $ 900 every 2 month's and have a $ 6000 deductable....the discussion I had with one of my employees was about that. She doesn't pay for health care and is getting most of her prescription for free through a sibling. So in the end she doesn't pay much other than the 2 visits she made to a doctor and that is it. I understand the risk for her is bigger in case of a major disaster, but other than that she is cheaper off....

Since soon after the beginning of the economic downturn we have seen many changes in the demand for health care services and how they are paid for. You will recall that last year, it was necessary for us to forego merit increases to help offset the impact of these changes on our financial stability. This year despite the best efforts of our entire organization, we have been unable to adequately offset the ongoing economic pressures that we continue to experience. The immediate future does not promise any easy relief. We expect the future to bring payment reductions from Medicare and Medicaid along with a multitude of reforms that challenge us to continuously increase the value of what we provide – higher quality, safer institutions, better service and lower costs.

Accordingly we must act in a manner that best preserves, going forward, the health care services and jobs that rely on our hospital’s continued economic strength. We employ over 2,100 people who staff more than 1,800 full-time equivalent (FTE) positions. Today we eliminated 80 previously authorized positions and most regrettably as a result 35 employees lost their jobs. While this equates to a relatively modest 5% reduction in the hospital’s payroll and related operating expenses, we do not underestimate the fact that any job elimination is a major event for the person and people impacted.

OP: Fraud (like 99% of people who claim to own small business).

There is absolutely nothing that is actual about your OP. You are not paying higher wages because of Obama's 2% payroll tax cut.

The op wants wage slaves with no health care and work them to death for 15 years instead of hiring one more worker. When they are spent just hire a younger one and REPEAT. This is old hat. Break a tractor buy another one kill a N&*^&%& hire another one. Tea party America.
