Online poker companies indicted for fraud - Apr. 15, 2011

I find it amazing that you Republicans feel it is appropriate for the Government to try to control what people do in their own homes with their resources, time and money, but you don't give a damn about jobs, the economy, healthcare, education, the drug problem, or about a thousand other things that REALLY are affecting Americans.

You people bitched and moaned about the nanny state, and then you pull some BS like this.

Big Government? Republicans.

You people disgust me. Make me want to get out of this country for good.

Sorry that we aren't going to allow deadbeats to gamble with their extended UI benefits (welfare) or their actual welfare payments.

Maybe you can explain to the children who don't get fed at night because daddy blew his welfare check at the casino but was too lazy to even leave the house to do it legitimately.

So you're going to be a Big Government agent and interfere in the lives of people (or "deadbeats" - tells me exactly where your values are) because you THINK they MIGHT do what YOU do not want them to with THEIR money.

Thank you for emphatically proving my point.

The funny thing is that folks like you keep accusing liberals of displaying this intrusive type of behavior.

Sure, if you can tell me where I said it was.

The key word here is that it is not THEIR money. It is OUR (taxpayer) money that funds those programs. The recipient class should be restricted on what they can spend that money on. All govt money comes with strings.

Are you actually being serious? First of all, the unemployment benefit funds are paid into by those who need them. And are you actually telling me that since the government pays the funds out, they should be able to tell those who get them what they should do with them? "The recipient class"? How twisted.

Also - and this is most important - not everyone who gambles online or elsewhere does it with unemployment or welfare checks. To even speculate as such is incredibly ignorant.

Do you have a problem with those who gamble on Wall Street with OUR millions?

UI is paid by COMPANIES as a tax. Individuals employeeds do not pay for this.

Not everyone that carries a gun is a criminal either, but the govt feels a need to control everyone's access to firearms.

Last time I saw my paycheck, I noticed that funds were being taken out for unemployment..........

Probably because it has been shown over the past thousand years or so that guns are lethal weapons. Didn't know you could kill someone from playing online poker.

What state are you in? UI is a COMPANY EXPENSE. It is charged as a percentage of total payroll to your employer.

Exactly. There is absolutely no moral ground for the anti online poker crowd to stand on, unless you want casinos, lottery, bingo, horseracing, etc... banned too.

What is worse is that poker is a game of skill. The best player ALWAYS wins in the long run. You are not playing the house, rather other players. Anyone who wants to debate me on this point better come prepared to look foolish b/c I will shred you with facts.

Why couldn't the government work out an arriangement where these sites paid taxes on all play by American players or better yet, allow poker sites to be hosted in the United States thus generating BILLIONS in tax revenue?

Ohh, I know why.... b/c the casino lobby and Bible thumpers don't want them to.

Plenty of blame here for both the pubs and dems. Bill Frist pulled a scummy move adding a last minute rider to a port security bill that made possibly illegal for banks to process payments to online poker sites and then the Obama administration delivers the death blow.

Frist was obviously pandering to the religious right and this latest move was no doubt done at the behest of Harry Ried Sen NV.

I'm sure that the world is safer now that I can't play in that $5.00 NL Holdem tournament tonight. Now the children are safe!

I'm sorry your gambling sites were shut down, as obviously that is all you can rant about.

Did you even bother to read the headline of those articles?
Do you know the meaning of the word "fraud"?
