Killer got $30,000 in unemployment while in jail, officials say

Anthony Garcia, 26, had family and friends cashing his $1,600-per-month checks while he served time, said Capt. Mike Parker, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. His accomplices would then deposit a portion of the money into Garcia's jail account. They also shared the cash with Garcia's fellow incarcerated gang members.

Death penalty would have been much cheaper - and more effective if used consistently.

Never fear. It was just a simple "accounting error" by the most competent government ever known to mankind. They don't make big mistakes. Only small mistakes of no consequence to anyone, anywhere. Besides, it's just tax dollars.

That man is a dumb-ass. He tattooed the crime scene on his chest? 30k works out to roughly 18 months of collecting UI. How the hell did that happen?

Likely fake ID's. That phenomena of fake ID is hitting florida and texas much harder, but with the blessings of the internet, I can have one fedex'd tomorrow.

Wouldn't his UI be cut-off if he was imprisoned?

My fave is 3,800 frivolous lawsuits filed by one weasel
Jonathan Lee Riches - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Now, somewhere in a prison is an innocent man wrongfully convicted worthy of an appeal, but waiting on line behind 3,800 BS requests from a guilty man dragging everyone into his BS just a little bit longer.

There was one man who ranked in the top 10-- sued himself for 5 million for forgetting his Christian upbringing and going on a bender. Robert lee Brock. 10 Frivolous Lawsuits

As the story goes, his friends outside of prison set all of this up. False identity is the common method in similar cases, but all the details of how he pulled this off in this case haven't been revealed in this article. We'll have to wait and see what happens in court just like always.

I wish they wouldn't limit liability. If he stole 30k from America, by my old school upbringing, he owes America 90k. Limiting liability in practice made it profitable to be a criminal, because proving how much was stolen over what amounts to be a crime spree lifestyle choice gives them a fluffy nest egg. Drug dealers can bail themselves out no problem.

Yes, that's funny you mention-- when too big to fail all hail worship privatized everything makes multi trillion sized mistake holding all of western civilization hostage. Privatized, as it turns out, means pirate-tized.
