Now before you poll, hear me out for a second.

Most Muslims view these extremists as evil who are distorting and perverting their religion. At least that is what Ive read and heard. If we can agree that these type of terrorists are indeed hijacking a religion and twisting it, using it to kill innocents, going completely against what Muslims tell us Islam is about shouldnt we then not even consider Muslim sensitivity?

After all, they are not representing Muslims. They should not get special treatment. That means no special burials, no special treatment and privileges while being held that would normally be given to a Muslim.

I dont know, I can see arguments against this but I hate to see these men who are obviously evil terrorists twisting a religion to murder innocents get special treatment based on something they are not.

The point is not to "give respect" to the dead terrorist; the point is not to manufacture ways to **** off a bunch of other Middle Eastern Muslims by appearing to willfully besmirch their customs and practices. It's already an extremely difficult thing to convince the broader Muslim community that America is not trying to be anti-Muslim. There's no need to make it even more difficult for ourselves with actions that don't gain us anything anyway. All that will do is make it that much more difficult to complete our objectives in making our nation and the world a safer place.

This. It was the extremist radical Islamists who attacked us in the first place. No need to poke the wasp nest if you can avoid it.

I'll admit, i'm a cold-hearted bastard who is forward leaning when it comes to heavy handed justice. I don't begrudge a bullet to OBL's brain (vs. a trial) and I wouldn't cry if they had strung him up by the balls from the Statue of Liberty for the world to see.

0- Voted Yes (the only yes vote so far)
1- Osama Bin Laden had earned death, not any less than someone on a death row.
2- Opposition to desecration of the body is more than just about sensitivity. It is about sensibility. People who celebrate over dead bodies, for any reason are sick people by any measure.

I am a firm supporter of the Russian/Israeli method of terrorist burial:

The Russian Way: Wrap Dead Islamic Terrorists In Pig Skins! | The Hive Daily – Raw. Unfiltered. Fearless

"Russian security forces have decided to bury the terrorists from last’s week’s hostage siege wrapped in pig’s skin. The aim is to deter potential Islamic terrorists from future attacks. Shahidi (Jihad martyrs) believe by their nefarious acts that they ascend immediately to heaven. Using their beliefs against them, wrapping their corpses in ‘unclean’ pigskin prevents them from entering heaven for eternity. The jewish rabbinical council confirms pork by-products are able to deter terrorists Israeli police are considering using bags of pig lard in buses and other places to deter Muslim suicide bombers, Maariv reported today. The proposal received the Jerusalem rabbinate’s approval. The police’s suggestion is based on the fact that strict Muslim tradition holds that any Muslim who comes in contact with a pig before dying will be denied access to heaven."

I wish they would have done this with the body of OBL...

I think your opinion is very, very interesting and food for thought.

I had not thought of that. On the one hand, we (collectively USA) tend to say that bin Laden was not really a 'Muslim', just like those who blew up the OKC federal building were not really 'Christians'.

Yet, after killing bin Laden, we took care to observe Muslim rites for the dead. Hmm.

However, I guess I tend to agree with the thought that there are a lot of people of the Islam faith who tend to think that the USA is not very respectful of their faith as it is, and perhaps the news of how we properly disposed of his body will, at the least, keep the 'on the fence' people, from jumping to one side to start condemning us.

I wonder if the Russians, when they burned Hitler's body, said a little prayer over him? I rather doubt it. I will also note, just for the heck of it, that there were many who, when Hitler's death was announced (May 1, 1945) feared that the remaining Nazi's would go nuts and extract revenge to honor their fallen leader (redoubts, suuicide bombings, etc).

Of course, that did not happen. They all faded away until there was not a single Nazi left! Indeed, by 1946, you would have not been able to find a single Nazi in Europe (save at Nuremburg). Sorta like Harry Potter: when Vodemort disappeared (book one) all of his followers woke up 'as from a dream' and denied that they had been willing followers, but cast under a spell.

I myself doubt that the followers of bin Laden will all fade away. I do suspect that some, living in the wilderness for years and thinking that their leader was holed up in some cave, are a bit disconcerted to discover that their dear leader was actually living with his wives and children in a rather large house with plenty of food and water.

I will add that I ended up voting 'not sure', since I could not make up my mind. There are lots of facets to think about.

I hate saying 'not sure'. It reminds me of a television show years ago. The host invited the viewers to call in to a special number and vote 'yes', 'no' or 'undecided', for 99 cents a call.

The next week they announced the results, and a surprising number of people (some 30 percent if I recall) spent a dollar to vote 'undecided', which tickled me.

I guess if I had to spend a buck in this poll, I would have chosen a final position.

I'm not sure if Israelis would love the idea of seeing their burial wrapped in pig skin. What do you think?
