Unfortunately, these wars and conflicts are a result of nation building and meddling in foreign affairs that our nation has no business being involved in. The CIA use a term called "Blowback" which is when foreign policy action goes wrong it actually has a negative effect on the US government, and the citizens pay the price (with more debt/taxes, or with their lives).
Since we've been bombing the middle east for over a decade, trying to overthrow political leaders and replace them with leaders of US interests, the failure of these attempts has created hostility in certain nations.
The US has created this hostility because it's a win/win for the government. They succeed in their attempt to nation build and they see the benefits of resources at a discount, industrialization contracts, weapons contracts, military outposts, UN votes. If the are UNsuccessful, they attack American citizens and the government spins propoganda stating "they hate us because we believe in freedom, let's unite against them!" Then they go to war without congress declaration and pass the patriot act, thus undermining our individual liberties.
But it's ok, we need to make sacrafices to fight an enemy on their soil that has no navy and no airforce, and who's military budget is less than 1% of ours...but Bush/Obama says they're a threat and we can't give in.
I have a question for Obama.....when are the troops coming home like you said they would?
