Is this a coincidence or is it just me?... I've been watching these movies again after a long time and I've been wondering... Did these screenwriters know something that we don't?...

Script from "Flash Gordon" - 1980

Ming
- After the earthquakes and tidal waves,
they won't be the same human beings.
- They'll be more tractable. Easier
for you to rule, in the name of Ming.

Flash
- You mean slaves.

Ming
- Let's say they'll be "satisfied with less"

Script from "The Fifth Element" - 1997

RIGHT ARM
Excuse me sir, the council is worried about
the economy heating up. They wondered if
it would be possible to fire 500,000... Perhaps one of the cab companies so nobody will notice...

ZORG
Fire 1 MILLION...

RIGHT ARM
But... 500,000 is all they need, sir.

ZORG turns slowly. A small scar across run across his face, his eye
stutters.
This is not a man to cross, or contradict.

RIGHT ARM
"1 MILLION! Fine, sir!
Sorry to have disturbed you."

I find the coincidences in these stories with recent world events very telling given that they have happened in the last couple of years...

More like Sleeper...

Quote:
Luna Schlosser: Oh, I see. You don't believe in science, and you also don't believe that political systems work, and you don't believe in God, huh?
Miles Monroe: Right.
Luna Schlosser: So then, what do you believe in?
Miles Monroe: Sex and death - two things that come once in a lifetime... but at least after death, you're not nauseous.
Sleeper (1973) - Memorable quotes

Brave New World is the most realistic one of what we will become..

No matter your political ideology, I definitely recommend Brave New World. It is very entertaining. Very VERY very thought provoking. If you don't like to think when you watch a movie, don't watch Brave New world.

And, for all those who seem to think revolution is the answer, there's always "Animal Farm:"
