Seriously- there's a more profound difference between Swiss society and US society than the sex ed curriculum might simply suggest.
The (comparably) low pregnancy rate in Switzerland is most definitely due to extensive and direct sex ed in schools.

Add to that ad campaigns, tv spots, and you get teenagers that are quite well aware of STDs and pregnancies.

For my part, I haven't heard anything about this in Zürich, and as such it doesn't seem to be such a big scandal. As jaggy has mentioned, if the parents don't like it, they can gather signatures and force a referendum.

All in all, this seems to be blown way out of proportion, probably to fake outrage over presumed wrongs, bash liberals and score some political points.

President taught American children all they need to know about how not to cause pregnancies.

That's what leaders are for.

what are you rambling about?

do you really think not having any information/education at hand for a child, being in the dark will prevent them from pregnancy?

I'm afraid they'll think peeing is abnormal.

Yes. Parents teach them when they are old enough to reason, which btw, isn't at 5. At five, its called indoctrination or training. Do you know nothing about child development or are you deliberately misleading?

Here's an example of the "training" going on in the U.S., which I imagine you think is just fine. But, many parents really don't want their children taught about sex or gender diversification at the tender age of five, let alone TRAINED like a rat to accept it.

Oakland school's lessons in gender diversity

"On Monday and today, Redwood Heights Elementary School students at every grade level were being introduced to the topic of gender diversity, with lesson plans tailored to each age group."

" Gender Spectrum trainer, Joel Baum, told the students. "Evolution comes up with some pretty funny ways for animals to reproduce."

And that same kind of diversity applies to people too, said Baum, the education director for the San Leandro nonprofit. For example, some boys can act like girls; some girls can have boy body parts; and some biological boys feel like a girl inside their hearts, he said.

"It turns out that there are not just two options," he said.

The part padcrasher forgot to mention.

Quote:
"Around 70 per cent of teenagers have an abortion at a really early stage," said Ruth Draths, a youth gynaecologist, who also runs an advisory website, firstlove.ch, for young people.

For Draths, Switzerland's population structure could be one reason why teen pregnancies are uncommon. She said that girls of other ethnicities sometimes started puberty earlier than their Swiss counterparts, which in fertility terms gave them a higher change of falling pregnant earlier.

Another reason is social behaviour. According to a study cited by Draths, the average age at which Swiss youth lose their virginity is 17 – this has remained stable over the past 20 years – which is relatively late compared with other countries.
