My son was watching cartoons this afternoon on one of the 250 cartoon channels and I noticed an ad for Pop Tarts and one with Sonny the Cuckoo Bird pushing Cocoa Puffs and it made me think of the a-holes who are targeting McDonald's, trying to get rid of Happy Meals and Ronald himself. My question is, why is there not an outrage for the other junk being advertised on cartoon channels? No one is picketing and calling for the death of the Lucky Charms dude. I guess it's because McDonald's is so large, therefore they are an easy target? I find it sad that is all some people have to do with their time.

BTW, our son has one Happy Meal per week and it's the same meal every single time. Chicken Nuggets, apples and a white milk. IMO, that meal is healthier than a couple of Pop Tarts. Anyway, we all have to make choices in this world. Some people know how to make smart choices. Some make bad choices. And some people think they have to be the world police and make choices for others against their will. Oh and also, there are some who bash the calorie count of a Big Mac, but the 2,500 calorie Chocolate Thunder from Outback is okay to eat. In fact, I would bet that the calorie and fat count in those "sit-down" type restaurants make fast-food look like a health spa! Why is there no bashing of Applebee's?

Nobody is trying to take away your kids chicken nuggets, but if you want him to have a toy to go along with it that will be up to you.

It is a large easy target because being so large it has quite of bit of influence on what kids what to eat and is available everywhere.

I haven't heard about Ronald being a target and don't see the point in that.

I think there's a problem when more kids can recognize Ronald McDonald than several US presidents.

That said, I think the true root of the childhood obesity issue is parents. Sure Ronald McDonald's playful personality might persuade kids to want McDonald's, but the parents are the ones who ultimately take them there and let them get a Large #3 (best McDonald's meal bar none).

The parent has always had this choice, no one was ever forced to purchase a meal with a toy and I'm sure if requested McDonald's would not include it. They are being banned in some places though, this decision is no longer left up to the parent but instead a decision made by the government.

..matter of time. Schools are already trying to dictate what kids eat during lunch if they bring food from home.

You CAN order the four-piece nuggets, apples and milk by themselves. If government feels the need to tell us what kind of light bulbs to use, they can tell us no more Happy Meals.

That's part of the problem but the bigger problem is kids don't exercise like they used too, it's really as simple as that. They may do more organized sports these days but the rest of their time is so regimented and/or they spend so much time indoors in front of computers/TV's they don't get exercise.

When I was young and school let out you go out on the bike, played baseball/basketball/football in neighborhood field or many other things that required physical excursion. I don't see kids doing that today. We had maybe 3 kids in class of 30 that might be considered overweight and only one was really obese because it was a medical problem.

My favorite McDonalds memory is all the Halloween stuff they used to do and the commercials they would show. I still have a couple plastic McNuggets and their costumes somewhere..

Maybe I'm just out of touch but I don't think they do that anymore.

I've heard they've been cutting recess in elementary schools. Madness. Back in my elementary school days (the 90s) we had recess every day and I think we had PE three days a week. In middle school we had PE every day except Friday.
