Baird refused to comment on Grinius' address to the disarmament conference, saying only that Canada's position is clear: "We do not support and we do not welcome North Korea chairing a United Nations agency on disarmament.

"It's absurd and it's loathe to meaningful efforts at worldwide disarmament."

I totally agree NK which is pretty much a renegade nuclear-armed state is some how leading the UN on weapons disarmament makes the U.N. a joke

Lol the UN is so hilariously despicable and useless. The U.S. needs to completely defund it's portion of UN foreign aid.

North Korea heading up the nuclear disarmament. What's next? Saudi Arabia heading up the Human Rights Council?

Not too long ago it was Libya heading up that council.

Hmmmm, isn't getting up in arms about a disarmament conference something we'd expect from the NRA? What in heavens name is happening to Canada?

Whatever it is, keep doing it Canada!

Assigning N. Korea to lead a disarmament conference makes as much sense as Iran leading a conference on women's rights.

oops.....never mind, the UN did that too.

"North Korea is simply not a credible chair of a disarmament body," he said of the bellicose nuclear-armed state, which faced UN accusations as recently as May of trading missile know-how with Iran.

Baird said the appointment was "unacceptable" given North Korea's "efforts in the opposite direction." He even called on Ambassador So — who will hold the presidency for a few weeks because it's North Korea's turn alphabetically in the 65-member conference — to "pass the chair on" to a country that will "advance the disarmament agenda

"If it weren't that So represented a country that seeks to sneak missiles to fellow rogue states, threatens to wage "merciless" warfare against its South Korean neighbour, and builds nuclear bombs while its people starve, you'd almost feel sorry him."

wow I like our new Foreign Affairs minister not many times does Canada tell it like it is and not worry about world image as a nice guy nation.

So what? The US leading it would be just as ridiculous. No country stockpiles as many nukes as the US.

North Korea is a horrible regime, no question about it, but it's understandable they won't give up their nuclear weapons program. The US already tried to invade their country once.

Lol, mmmmmm North Korea invaded the south. The Korean War was a UN operation.

The moral equivalence of the left is laughable.
