From The Detroit News: Politics-State | 48-month welfare cap clears Senate | The Detroit News (http://detnews.com/article/20110714/POLITICS02/107140416/48-month-welfare-cap-clears-Senate#ixzz1S5RdSs00 - broken link)[/LEFT]
What's the logic in reducing an earned income tax credit?
EIC is a negative tax burden on the Fed and can end up costing more as people can get refunds for more tax money then they paid so it becomes a liability to the Fed rather than revenue.

I was referring to the Michigan EITC, which is no tax burden on the Fed and a moderate tax burden on the state.
The extra tax burden faced by low-income residents (due to high property taxes on rentals) far exceeds the "burden" of the Michigan EITC.
So Michigan is taking far more out of the left pockets of the working poor than they are putting into their right pockets...and now they're just picking pockets without putting anything back.

I don't know enough about Michigan's property tax to comment.
Here in Texas property tax is local, not state so one can move to a lower cost area and enjoy lower property taxes.

In Michigan, the school property tax rate on rentals (where low-income EITC parents live) is four times the school property tax rate on owner-occupied homes, since a state school funding "reform" in 1994.
There is a specific "nonhomestead tax" levied on rental property, and it was created by Republicans in order to reduce the property tax burden on homeowners.
Michigan Republicans never met a regressive tax they didn't like.

Moving, relocating, bugging out, etc.
Look into it. Neanderthals knew how to do it. Ask one of them.
Does that not make sense? If you cannot afford to live where you are, then you go to a place where you can afford to live, rather than whine and cry and demand that other people subsidize you.

You people need to grow up.
Not for nothing but I'm doing just that.
I'm near Austin..property taxes are going through the roof.
So, I'm moving to another county where property taxes are 1/3 of what I pay now.

I've heard people say that renters don't pay property taxes, so why don't you just rent and eliminate property taxes altogether?
