Let's all just stop kidding ourselves, no one seems to have a clue exactly what's going on right now. I read the news and all I see is: "blame Obama", "blame congress", "cut spending", "no raise spending!", "more taxes", "no, cut taxes!".

The highly complicated nature of our economy, let alone the world economy, along with its numerous interdependancies with our political system is about as clear to most Americans as the concept of string theory is to a goat.

Why then do we continue to make major, course-altering decisions based on these gut feelings at worst, and educated guesses at best?

If your kid starts to get sick one day, would you immediately diagnose it as cancer and rush him to the emergency room?

We as the non-governing population need to sit down and do some critical thinking here. Understand whats going on first before you open your mouth or mark that check box.

Should we overhaul our voting system?

It's ignorant people who vote the people into the government who make these ignorant decisions.

So how would overhauling the voting system fix this "problem"?

I think people have become so politicized that they think their political view is the hammer and EVERY conceivable topic is a nail. It makes it very hard to have any thoughtful discussion, because the answer is a forgone conclusion.

As in, let's make sure people are educated enough to make big decisions.

Our system currently allows any citizen, regardless of his or her understanding of the economy or politics to vote. There are people out there with absolutely ZERO understanding of how our political system works making very big decisions that affect not only our economy, but the entire world economy.

Granted, I do think EVERY citizen should be given the right to vote in our country, however, I feel there should be a check put in place to ensure people are educated enough to vote.

We require medical doctors to pass tests before performing surgery on someone. We require air traffic controllers to pass tests before clearing your plane to land. We require people to take drivers tests before driving their car.

Why should we not expect the same standards of the voting population? We can't count on high school, as a safety net, to teach people all they need to know on how the world works.

Haha, if there are no MAJOR structural changes to the way this country work............oh well........from a melting pot, into a chamber pot. And these changes CANNOT be things that the creepy LEADERS can get around.

You see what is happening now, the system does not want change, rebels violently against it. The average joe has next to NO say in this country......just vote for creep A or B.

We can start by repealing the 17th Amendment. That way, more level-headed people are APPOINTED to the Senate by STATE GOVERNORS. There's a reason why the Senate was originally appointed instead of directly elected. The House represented the will of the people and society while the Senate was there to put the brakes on the House if it got too out of hand. This will certainly help against uneducated voters since state governors are more likely to be knowledgeable about politics and the like, and can appoint level-headed Senators to the US Senate

Should we make a rule that only wealthy landowners should be allowed to vote.
