That;s one complaint I heard from Canadians during the past several years. They don't have much claim to anything genuinely Canadian. And the few Canadian owned companies they do have, they fiercely guard them from foreign buyers (I remember when The Bay was bought up from a businessman in SC. The comments on CBC weren't very happy). I wish we had a more nationalistic spirit like the Canadians have when it comes to our companies.

Btw, GTOLover, one person that I do greatly respect in your House of Commons is Peter Julian. I believe he's in the Surrey riding, not Van if I remember.

Edit: Nevermind, he's Burnaby-New Westminster

I am in the Port Moody-Coquitlam riding..One thing about B.C. our provincal politics and most of the party leaders all suck..our province is the only one who sold off most of it's major crown corporations to private corporations..

on the federal level PM Steven Harper is doing awsome and Jack Layton had a great vision but his dream was not really made for a bad economy..

yeah the Hudsons bay trading company has alot of historic meaning to Canada but like most places super wallmarts opened up and killed off alot of business but The Bay has quality items and you pay for it and well wallmart is wallmart...

To be honest not much really seperates Canada and the US culture wise to really tell us apart well unless hockey is involved.

I mean to be honest I really do care about the US Economy and employment issues I mean for both out nations the early 21st century is going to be tough for North America and we are going to have China right on us..one thing we do have is the world largest natural resorces and deep down where JFK said the US would land a man on the moon and the US was capable of what seemed impossible possible

Um, Bush's 04' "Yes, America Can" tour bus was made in, wait for it, Canada! So are Bachmann's and Palin's current tour buses, but they're not (supposed) to be paid for by taxpayers, to be fare. It gets better, the republican nominee will get an identical bus to Obama's (of course made in Canada). - sourced from the Chicago Tribune

My car is a Chevrolet and was built in Canada. Its been above average in reliability. I can't complain about that.
GM has really fallen down( since the bailout) and I'll be very cautious in buying a car from them but if I do I'll try to buy one made in Canada.

If you're going to crow about your good deeds, do your homework.

Or just keep your mouth shut.

It's simple.

"......."What better example could I set if I encouraged my staff to go and purchase and seek how we could acquire a vehicle that would for me would send a signal that we're for supporting our American workers, American-made products, ....."

This topic isn't about Canadian built vehicles being good or bad. It's about an Obama official proudly showing off her new vehicle and proclaiming it to be American made. By definition, she was right. It was built in North America and so it is American made. But it was not made in the USA by citizens of the USA which was the intent of her statement. She could have purchased a Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, or even a Kia and have a greater chance of it being built in the USA than a GM vehicle.
