Heath care was passed through reconciliation, which only requires a majority, which is rare in the Senate.

If you are saying that everything in the Senate can be effectively passed by a majority and the GOP can't block it, that's plainly incorrect.

In order to get to reconciliation it must have been passed by both houses. So to say the Dem's could not do that with the Bush Tax cuts is a bit disingenuous

Because that was early on in his term, when he still thought he could get some bipartisan policy agreement.

You... Mentioning stupid guys...

.
How do you "get some bipartisan policy agreement" when you snub the republican leadership the first week in office, and then don't bother to meet with the republican leadership but once in nine months, and then conduct everything in secretive, democrats-only meetings, behind closed doors?

President Obama listened to Republican gripes about his stimulus package during a meeting with congressional leaders Friday morning - but he also left no doubt about who's in charge of these negotiations. "I won," Obama noted matter-of-factly, according to sources familiar with the conversation.

Boehner told reporters that the president has not invited House GOP leaders to the White House for meetings on healthcare reform since the end of April.

Earlier this year, GOP leaders sent a letter to the president in May stating that they would like to work with the administration to find "common ground" on healthcare reform.

But the administration responded with a tersely worded letter indicating that they had healthcare reform under control.

Rare, but not unprecedented nor does it mean that Obama and Congress could not have passed legislation altering the tax code. Your point is moot.

What is their to trust in, the man is very shallow, his world only involves his cronies, green energy, and divisive, partisan rhetoric. There is no there there.

Almost $5 trillion has been spent in new debt and we have NOTHING to show for it. Every middle income family could have gotten decades of free health care, every unemployed person could have received $200,000 to go to school, pay bills, etc... and we'd still have trillions left over.

I totally agree. America is finally tuning in to who Barack Obama really is.

All bills require passage by both houses.

Crash course on reconciliation

Reconciliation is a fast-track legislative process that allows a bill to pass the Senate in a limited time period, and with the support of only 51 Senators. A “normal” Senate bill can be slowed down by a single Senator, and blocked by 41 Senators. This is not true for a reconciliation bill.

The downside is that reconciliation “protections” apply only to a very narrow set of policy matters, all relating to changes in taxes, spending, or debt.
