In Canada they have, in addition to various federal programs, provincial immigration programs, whereby you can immigrate to Canada as long as you stay in the selected province.
Wouldn't that be a good solution for the US as well? There are states that are sparsely populated such as Iowa or Nebraska whereas others such as California or many along the East Coast are kind of overcrowded

Currently, as soon as you get a green card you can go anywhere, and most immigrants still move to the traditional immigration states that are already crowded and very competitive in every way.

perhaps because we are not Canada? Immigration is a function of the Federal Government and what incentive is there for a immigrant to be restricted solely to one state? Doesn't make any sense.

The power to establish "an uniform Rule of Naturalization" is delegated to the Congress in the Constitution.

For instance in the case of the green card lottery. Why not have participants select the state they would like to settle in when they submit their entry? Those 55k green cards are presents anyway. For those who want to move to the US, a green card for Iowa is better than none at all.
It might be limited to a specific state for the first 5 or 10 years. And with naturalization the geographical limitation could be lifted. By that time immigrants are likely to have already settled down anyway.

Firstly, let me note the irony, actually hyprocrisy, of a German advsing America on immigration of all things. Fix your Haus!

Moving along, we believe in the free movement of people here. Nobody is restricted to one area. Such restrictions sound like those from societies where suspicious and angry men in dark uniforms screamed, " Papieren! Ausweis!" Germans love that kind of thing, but it does not fly here.

Finally, America has the most generous immigration system in the world. We take in more immigrants than all others combined. Therefore, why the hell would we need a "good solution."? Solution to what? We are too generous?

Neuling- your country is plagued with xenophobia. As we speak, your right wing crazies are putting up anti-immigration posters in Berlin. It takes a massive quantity of arrogance to start a thread like this. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Canada is a free country, far from being German in any way, and they do it.

Your constant German references are getting a bit boring. Even if Americans can't understand it, I don't give a crap about nationality, ancestry, etc. Saying Germany is my county is like saying Merkel is my wife

You already have a state-based system when it comes to tuition. Nobody seems to bother...

Interesting map on where legal immigrants move:

So each state can become a class warfare battleground. Brilliant.
