Perry a no-show in Bastrop | KXAN.com

Gov. Rick Perry canceled a walkthrough of destroyed Bastrop neighborhoods Saturday afternoon and then was a no-show at a press conference where residents and media waited for his arrival.

....Perry, considered the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination, was in Austin, only a 25-minute drive away.

Our Austin Fire Chief was on vacation in Colorado, and didn't come home for 2 days. Whatever, not surprised by either.

Maybe he was too busy doing something to make a photo op out of a tour? This guy is no Obama thank God, Obama would be taking thousands of pictures of himself looking concerned and so forth.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHH! Never miss a chance to compare Obama unfavorably to someone, anyone! I recall one time when Obama didn't go directly to some national disaster scene (I believe the shootings at Ft. Hood), and he got crap for that, too!

Since politicians and the presence of government in general is useless or liable to make matters worse, this should be cause for celebration.

This demonstrates to me that someone whose popularity is based on saying how much they hate government, shouldn't be running one!

A memory refresher;
"Today is day eight after the Nashville Flood of 2010. Our own personal Katrina. On a disaster scale of 1 to 7, Katrina ranked a 7. Nashville ranks a 5. I think that number is a bit low, considering 52 counties in the mid-state region have asked for disaster relief, and according to The Tennessean, $28 million in relief has been approved.

There is at least $1.5 billion in damage in Davidson County alone, a number that does not include damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure. That's $1.5 billion in personal property and business losses alone. More than 16,000 people have applied for FEMA aid so far.

The mud line on the trees is 30 feet high.

And the national media is non-existent. There is no looting. There are no fires. There is no anarchy. All you see is love. Community.

Maybe that's why the national news has forgotten us. Maybe that's why President Barack Obama hasn't bothered to come down here. Or the vice president. No, we got a visit from Janet Napolitano over the weekend, five days after the disaster began. The head of Homeland Security. Shouldn't she be focused on Times Square and the border issues in Arizona?

Opinion: After the Nashville Flood, Where Is President Obama?

Way to put a "spin" on a totally ineffective and nonconstructive governor! Obviously Perry has no experience or competency dealing with crises.

Thank god Obama is there to help!

The federal government on Friday declared Texas a disaster area, paving the way for individuals to get financial aid. Doggett said the Federal Emergency Management Agency will incur 75 percent of the costs of fighting the fires, and families will be eligible for up to $30,000 to pay for expenses not covered by insurance policies, such as hotel bills, temporary housing and even construction costs.

I think I'll withhold my condemnation until I hear the reason Perry cancelled.
