Obama to address 3,000 gay activists - CNN.com

Quote:
Supporters say Obama's accomplishments on gay rights issues have been substantial since he last headlined the annual National Dinner of the Human Rights Campaign, in 2009, including the repeal of the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. However, his lack of support for gay marriage still stands out as a snub for many.
Obama currently supports same-sex civil unions, and has said his views on gay marriage are 'evolving.'
Let's see him get raked over the coals like the rest of us with the same opinion here.

I suspect he's just trying to maximize his 2012 vote by not going the full distance on the gay marriage issue.

See, I just don't respect that. And yes, they all do it.
Have an opinion, whatever it is, but don't change it around based on who will vote for you.

That's so disingenuous, but I guess that's just politicians in general.
I really do wish we could throw them all out and start over.

You have to appease the ignorant masses to get elected.

I have no way of knowing whether or not Obama is being honest about his opinions concerning same gender marriages, but I as I told people in 2008 the good thing is he won't block repeal efforts of DOMA. So far this has turned out to be true.

Just like the blacks, the Democrats just say things to keep us strung along. 2008 was the last time I fell for that ol trick.

The Republicans do it too. It's called politics.

I'm beginning to think Obama would be a good GOP presidential candidate - possibly the best one they can come up with.

Political expediency at its finest.

How how long will it take Obama to come out in support of gay marriage after he's out of office - a day? a week? maybe a year?

Obama was pro gay marriage long before anyone here ever heard of him. He is an rational secular intellectual who does not actually take his moral compas from "holy" books.

He is also a midwestern politician who, had he stated his real beliefs would not be in the White house today. The attitudes of middle America differ greatly on this issue than on the more progressive coasts.

He knows that he can do more for gay rights by not being openly pro gay marriage.
