Those aged 18-34 are the most likely to say the govt should be doing so at 53%, which is up from 38% in 2008. In 2008, they were the least likely of any age group to support promoting traditional values, now they're the most supportive of it.
43% of adults aged 35-54 say the same as do 51% of those 55 and older.
There are more 'Traditional Values" I oppose than I support. The biggest being the worship of wealth and the next the worship of war which amounts to the same thing. Treating women as a seperate and lesser species is another. Praising drunks also counts. Protecting pedophile preachers while condoning child abuse. These are just a few of the "traditional values" I am glad to see we have dropped.
The one we need to restore is the realization that anyone working for a big company without union protection is a fool.
It's not the government's job to promote traditional values,...that job belongs to the family. However, I would like to see elected politicians conduct themselves by traditional values such as honesty, obeying the law, upholding their oath of office, not accepting bribes (or campaign contributions in exchange for special favors), not cheat on their spouse (at least not until after divorce proceedings have been started), and doing what's best for the city, state, our country rather than what's best for the political party they're a member of. At one time among politicians, being called a "party man" was considered a grave insult because it meant you put your party ahead of your country. Other traditional values people should be teaching their children include placing a high value on education, personal responsibility, honoring people who earn an honest living, looking down upon those who choose to commit a life of crime.
This is the problem with big government. As government has grown and grabbed more power, people have watched as the other side's views are pushed by the government over their own views. Now we have a constant battle by two sides to take control of this goverment power in the vain attempt to promote their views above all others. This only leads to bitterness and anger as no one wants to have another's views imposed on him.
The government's job isn't to provide "traditional values" or to make social programs... something the liberals and conservatives don't seem to get...
