I think all those on unemployment and or welfare should be expected to work up to 30 hours a week for these benefits. Community service jobs, cleaning up trash etc.
I totally agree. A WPA style program would be beneficial in this economy. I was on unemployment and the only thing it helped me with was to feel sorry for myself. Now that I don't have benefits I am networking like no tomorrow and picking up odd jobs here and there. It is tough out to find jobs, but I am feeling more optimistic now. Plus, I went back to church and can honestly say they have given me MORE help than the government.
That being said, did Jesse Jackson come upon a secret money tree no one knows anything about? How does he propose we pay for this? I pay enough in taxes because I am single.
not to be cynical but that is exactly what welfare to work (AFDC) has done. the total comprehensive annual cost for each recipient courtesy our federal government, yep $40,000 a head in cash and benefits sounds just about right.
Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. has offered his own $804 billion jobs plan that calls on the federal government to hire the nation’s 15 million unemployed Americans for jobs paying roughly $40,000 each, and bail out all the states and cities facing budget crises.
What an idiot.
And a little thinking idiot. Why not pay them$100,000 and make everybody happy?
year two-unionized and salary doubled, next-even less work than before, next-eight guys watching a guy dig a hole instead of four, next-double salary actually when government increased to handle paper work and managing them, next-guaranteed voting block for the democrats as they keep the gravy train going, next-collapse of our economy.........hahahaha, foolish me, it already collapsed

His plan sounds like a far better idea than anything the Republican have put out in recent memory. Certainly better than anything Pubs have promoted the last 11 years, no question. Jesse Jackson is on the right track.
The Pub narrative, of course, is wrong as usual. Any group of losers who told us that George Bush deserved to be reelected certainly doesn't have the judgment or instincts to be taken seriously.
Go Jesse Jackson. He holds a superior position to that of any of the GOP presidential candidates too.
