STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — After top Penn State officials announced that they had fired Joe Paterno on Wednesday night, thousands of students stormed the downtown area to display their anger and frustration, chanting the former coach’s name, tearing down light poles and overturning a television news van parked along College Avenue.

*****************************
That's disgusting.

*****************************

Penn State’s board of trustees fired him Nov. 9 because it felt the coach did not go far enough in alerting authorities after then-graduate assistant Mike McQueary told Paterno he witnessed an alleged assault in March 2002. McQueary, now Penn State’s wide receivers coach, told a grand jury he saw Sandusky raping a boy of about 10 in the showers at the Penn State football building. McQueary went to Paterno, though it is not clear if he described the alleged attack in as graphic detail as he did to the grand jury.

Paterno then told athletic director Tim Curley and university vice president Gary Schultz, whose responsibilities included oversight of the campus police. No one called police.

Scandal leaves Paterno's reputation in tatters - Taiwan News Online

Raping a 10 year old boy in the showers. But, he's a good coach! Let's support him! This is beyond surreal. I don't want to believe it even happened. But it did. Students rioted in support of a coach who, after being told there was a guy raping a kid in the showers, just kind of said, "Meh. Guess I'll tell the boss."

Its idolism... Hollywood and professional sports has been preaching it for awhile... Paterno is not a bad guy but obviously, as the head of his department, he should of done more... if the university wasn't going to do something about it, he should of gone to the police (as much as I dislike the police now)...

Arrest them, charge them and then expel them from the school. Let the rest know it won't be tolerated and there are consequences for your actions.

Default WTF is wrong with this country? Students protest/flip a van in support for Paterno.

A bunch of spoiled punks with no morals or respect, I'm sure their parents are proud.

It seems clear to me that ageism is the ugly reason why Sandusky is being targeted. This is proven by the fact that they fired 84 year old Paterno but kept on the much younger McQueary. The students sense this, and that is why they vented their frustration.

It was racism when they went after Michael Jackson but they couldn't bring down the Prince of Pop, no matter how much dirt they threw:

Does that qualify as old in our 24 hr. news cycle?

I mean the flipping of the van is old, it happened like two weeks ago and it was talked about quite a bit in the big thread about the whole PSU scandal.
