You want an example? America, before Big Government ruined it.

The fact that humans love power, and will do anything to get it, means that even a nation that starts on the principle of small and limited government, will soon be overrun by power-mad and corrupt people getting into power, and then using that power to grab MORE power. The Founding Fathers KNEW that this was the greatest threat to our nation: destruction from the cancer within. They tried to stop it from happening, and told us we would basically have to fight at least once every generation to STOP the inevitable creep of government grabbing power and confiscating money. We FAILED to fight the cancer. Now we're dying of it, just like most other modern nations that fell to the inherent pitfalls of human nature.

If humans could ever get past their obsession with wanting to give power to evil and arrogant narcissists, we COULD have nations with small governments, and these nations would be FAR more prosperous than their neighbors with more onerous governments.

Switzerland and New Zealand are currently the best examples, given our modern world that is endemic with overgrown government stealing from the citizens and creating their own spoiled and non-productive aristocracy.

So, nowhere. There is no libertarian/conservative government success story because conservatism only looks good on paper.

As a liberal Democrat, I would love if the USA was more like Switzerland and New Zealand.

What makes you think Switzerland has little government?

Also, it is a very small country, so naturally there simply is not much to govern

And you want a fight every generation? Sounds your founding fathers didn't come up with an overly sophisticated, civilized solution to keep human nature at bay

I think one needs to find a good compromise, not too little and not too much government. Here in tiny Portugal with a population of less than 11m we have 700,000+ government employees. Still, it takes quite a long time to get anything done. Laws are a mess, too many, too complicated. Resources are wasted on the wrong things while essential priorities are neglected.

It's a small pond, and racially and culturally closed.

1925 is a year i pulled out of a body orifice because another poster (whom i quoted) said that small government worked in this country before big government came to fruition.

So 1925 is as good an example of pre-big government America as any other. Ok...we'll change it. How would i have fared in 1908 since 1925 is giving you heartburn.

The early 20th century was a muscular time to live for anyone.

Doesn't New Zealand have socialized medicine? In Switzerland, coverage is universal within a private system.

And the United States at its founding was not at its peak of power, influence or wealth. It was pseudo aristocracy, and in case you forgot, a big portion of the early economy relied on slave labor (I guess it was the 'free market' at work?)

Also, do we forget that the entire western portion of the United States was driven by one of the largest land socialism projects in history? The homestead act gave settlers FREE (EEK!) land!! Land purchased or won with American taxpayer resources... given away!
