do you agree with reduced sentences for crack?

Quote:
A reduction in federal prison sentences for crack cocaine took effect on Tuesday in a move that could let an estimated 12,000 inmates go free early.

The changes reduce federal penalties for more addictive crack cocaine to bring them more in line with those for powdered cocaine. The sentencing disparity had long been criticized as racially discriminatory because it disproportionately affected black defendants.

Don't really know enough about it. What's your average sentence for being caught with crack?

These mandatory sentence rules have stuffed the prisons full. There is no more room.

The is such a retread. But there have always been differences in sentencing offenders for selling crack vs. powder cocaine. They need to make the sentences line up for both.

I think it was our own Sheila Jackson Lee that sponsored the bill...

Basic reason was most folks that do crack are black, and penalties for cocaine use (mostly white folk) are more lenient. SJL thought it should be similar.

I voted other, because I don't agree with any jail time for drug use, of any kind. If you are neglecting your children because of your drug use, we have a childrens protection bureau to rely on.

But reduced sentences good, but not nearly far enough.

The war on drugs is a complete failure. To prevent wide spread use, decriminalize it for all people of legal alcohol age to posses. The prevents large farms from taking over, and encourages self growth, which would end most of the mexican drug running crap.
