It was much later than WW II that young adults started living away from the parental home. My brothers-in-law lived at home until they got married in the 1960s.
For Pity's Sake, I don't think you have a good grasp of US history in this regard. It wasn't *that* long ago that people lived in the parental home until they got married. Both my brothers-in-law, born in the early 1940s, did that. If women, in particular moved "away" they lived in a boarding home or something similar. This business of having one's own apartment started with the Boomers, I think.
It's not just "poorer" countries where such a lifestyle is the norm, either. We have friends from Poland who did not understand (at first) the American way of moving away for college. Both of the adults lived at home until they got married.
The big difference in the US is that these basement boarders don't contribute. They don't pay rent, and mommy and daddy pay their car payments, give them gas money, and keep them on their insurance.
It's not the just the kids that have the problems, though. Many times it's that mom and dad can't let junior go. Quite the codependent relationship being played out.

You sound mad because someone isn't paying all your bills and giving you gas money

Not at all. I can pay my own bills, thank you. And have been since I moved out of my parents home at 17.
I am mad because these basement boarders expect me to forgive their student loans, and give them healthcare well into the years they should be earning their own living and paying for their own healthcare. My taxes pay for that, so yeah, I get to be mad.
The other issue with all these leeches on their parents and society is that many of them have children. Either as "baby daddies" or moms without a contributing father. So once again, I get to pay....

Bingo. Years ago families took care of their own.
Today, live together and pool all your social welfare entitlements.
I did say OPINION.
I know the left doesn't like people who think independently and come to their own conclusions or give opinions that differ from the "collective" but the US is still a free nation (as of today).

Like it or not. Agree to disagree and move on.
Well, opinion coming out of your head to the keyboard is not very convincing.
