I'm as patriotic as anyone. I took the oath to protect this country from all enemies, foreign and domestic.
I saw the news segment. She wasn't 'pledging' allegiance to Mexico. It appeared to be part of an exercise where the did memorize and recite the pledge in Spanish and sing the national anthem. It was not indoctrination. They didn't have to have their palms out as is custom, but I can appreciate it from a cultural learning stand point.
In French, we learned the French and Quebecois Francais Pledge, in French. Had to memorize it and there really was no flack from parents.
We need to resist a kneejerk response, this is no different from eating cultural foods in a language class- say Steak tartare in France or Hell, bratwurst in German.

A pledge is political especially foreign pledges.
What is cultural about the pledge being Mexican in a Spanish class?
Its not an Mexican class.
Then the teacher shouldn't have created a situation that was bound to create controversy...and in Texas of all places, where I suspect people are highly sensitive to the issue on both sides.

The issue is that schools are not letting their students recite the American pledge, but do this? Like the other poster had mentioned. Spanish is from Spain not Mexico.
