The life of almost every person on earth is constrained by some type of an equitable value-exchange. The resources we possess determine what we can buy, barter, exchange or own. Everyone knows that the only way to continue to spend more than one has or earns, either requires theft or some other form of appropriating other people’s resources … And, it ultimately leads only to economic destruction.
Yet, the US Government, perhaps much like the ancient Roman Empire or other more recent corrupt dictatorships, produces nothing except bureaucracy and debt, while spending money it doesn’t have on things its citizens don’t need. As Thomas Jefferson once said, “May God protect us from politicians who take our money under the pretense of taking care of us.”
The enemy of our nation’s financial solvency is self-serving politicians (not ‘leaders’ or ‘statesmen’) – who make careers of appropriating the hard-earned resources of some, to ‘buy’ the votes of others! We know it! We see it! --- and sadly, we vote for it… over and over! That is why term limits are so essential. Term limits will force our elected officials to consider the national interest ahead of their own re-election campaigns. They will send the “career politicians” back in private life, where our forefather’s always intended for them to be.
Examples of wasteful spending: U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK) today released a new (12/20/11) oversight report, “Wastebook 2011” that highlights over $6.5 billion in examples of some of the most egregious ways taxpayer dollars were wasted. All the while, Washington was on a shopping binge, spending money we do not have on things we do not absolutely need. Instead of cutting wasteful spending, nearly $2.5 billion was added each day in 2011 to our national debt, which now exceeds $15 trillion,”http://www.coburn.senate.gov/public/6946d43b-bccf-4579-990e-15a763532b40.html
Without getting into specifics such as whether allowing unlimited imports from China and immigration is in our best interest, certainly the inability of our Congress to agree on even basic issues is dragging our country down. They are hoping we forget in November, or, in cases where there is a primary challenge, even sooner.
We need term limits and serious campaign finance reform where only individuals that are US citizens can contribute limited amounts of money. No corporate donations and no union donations.

I think the bills put forward to stop insider trading by Congress members and to do away with their pensions entirely would on it own impose term limits as those motivated to serve for the financial reward won't run or won't stick around long. I'd like to see the GOP get both of these bills passed ASAP and run on that in 2012.
I suspect after I go to the OP's linked report and finish reading it in its entirety I'll be so made I won't want to pay my taxes.
