McPherson Square in Washington, D.C., received more than $400,000 in upgrades as part of President Obama's stimulus program including replanting grass and landscaping—much of which was damaged or destroyed when the Department of Interior (DOI) permitted illegal camping in the park for the recent "Occupy" protests.
Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) has written to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar asking him to explain a series of agency decisions that allowed protestors to stay in tents at the park for extended periods of time despite a ban on "camping." The letter also asked Secretary Salazar to document any communications between DOI and the White House regarding the Occupy protests in McPherson Square.
Quote:
"As part of the stimulus, the Department of Interior awarded more than $400,000 to...rehabilitate McPherson Square in Northwest Washington...that included new grass, concrete curbs, refurbished benches, new light poles, water fountains, new paint, new chain fencing, 12 new trash cans and new light meters. While the merits of this stimulus funding are debatable, we can all agree that once the federal government invested the funds, no government agency should have allowed it to be damaged or destroyed when it legally could have been prevented," Issa wrote.
You can rest assured that someone who either supports, or participates in OWS will be posting soon to tell you why they are ENTITLED to destroy public and private property, as they have been doing across the country.

Exactly.
I feel its important to post as many relevant OWS threads as is necessary to point out how far forum leftists will go to avoid discussing the failed Occupy Movement. The conspicuous silence speaks volumes about how fickle liberals are when it comes to actually standing up for somthing they believe in. Silence on the OWS threads proves that even they know how ineffective and destructive their own movements are.
DC park as economic stimulus? Remember, DC is already the richest region of the country now. It doesn't need 'stimulus.' And then the protesters ruin a public park, as a way to protest private banking interests. And joe taxpayer in flyover country gets the bill (plus interest, since this is all borrowed money).
How much lunacy and rrationality can one country take before God steps in and declares us one vast insane asylum?

The best use of "stimulus funds" in DC is to hire more police to keep the bums and gangs off the streets that harass the tourists.

I concur. First of all, why did McPherson Park get $400K in stimulus funding? The park itself is not very big...perhaps 2-3 acres at most. How many jobs were "saved" or "created" with $400K? And now the work and money is completely lost due to the scrabble that makes up the Left. This should infuriate everyone, yet no one really cares.
Regardless of any money spent to upgrade the park; what's wrong with demanding a security deposit before allowing any organization to inhabit a space?
If I want to rent a local Legion Hall fopr a dance or wedding I'm damn sure they're ognna wnat assurance that the hall will be relinqushed back to them in good shape or I lose my deposit AND pay for repairs.
Seems reasonable that a set fee should be negotiated to allow these protest groups who seem well organized enough to print their flyers etc., to pay a bundle up-front so as to put them behind the eight ball if their members go postal and destroy the place.

Excellent idea.
Unfortunately, not only was $400K in taxpayer dollars wasted on park improvements, DC Mayor Vincent Gray has asked the Federal Government (ie. you and me) to pay $1.6M in police/city costs to keep an eye on the Occupiers.
How's that for pure absurdity? That's how it works in Liberal La La Land. Everyone else's money is free game!
Apparently the Dept. of the Interior made the decision to allow indefinite camping in McPherson Park. Was this the decision of Obama's cabinet member Ken Salizar?
