I hear this all the time. The question is not should we confiscate all the wealth from the rich but should raising taxes on the rich be part of a solution to fiscal balance.
Taxing the rich a few percent more raises as much money as imposing harsh cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. Thus, those cuts can be avoided by raising taxes modestly.
I hear this all the time in comments and in the MSM.
So which Congress person has put tax changes on the table and I meant IRS tax changes ? NONE.
You're being lied to. Tax the rich ? Ok so why was the payroll tax cut given out to everyone ? Why not just 50K salary and lower ?
When the wealthy pay disproportionately low tax rates, this reduces investment in public goods like roads, rail, ports, infrastructure, national defense, social welfare -- and it puts the burden of these expenditures on the low-wealth working class.
Are your taxes scheduled to go up? Then what are you talking about?
Shhh, also dont tell Cletus that if we tax all of the wealth, all assets become worthless because if what you own has no value to you, then you wont buy it..
Somebody had better tell that to Switzerland, France, Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, Norway, and India, because they tax wealth. Russia and the UK are debating the idea.

LOL... You can manipulate a net worth statement 1000's of different ways. And I'm sure that those who can afford to do just that will. Once again, it'll be the middle class folks who don't cheat and pay their taxes without fail that will be hurt. How many middle class folks who actually didn't fall into the real estate fiasco want to pay tax on the equity in their homes? Because equity is on a net worth statement. Guess it'll be time for me to quit making my house payments and let er go back to the bank because no way I can pay tax on my equity... jeez....

Well this discussion is about the US. What do we care about taxes in other countries ?
