A typical pint of lager costs about nine Euros in Norway due to confiscatory taxes. Small wonder they resort to making shine.

Yup, that and the fact that Norway has a long history of 'homebrew' culture. For several hundred years in the Middle Ages, every Norwegian household was required by law to make a certain amount of beer.

Norway never, historically, had much of a pub culture. Alcohol was produced and consumed in the home and socialization with the community took place in the home as well as opposed to everyone leaving the home to socialize in a public house.

Oh so they have been wandering around Iraq and Afghanistan with flowers and candy. Wake up and smell the coffee. I spent 10 months in Laos in 1964 do you friggen think I wandered around with an umbrella and a bowler hat opening doors for old ladies. Shheeesh.

Foreign bases are only part of the scene. Yes we pay rent but foreign military personnel on anyone's soil is a problem. How about we rent a base to Canada in Illinois which is almost bankrupt? The Canadians have the money. How'd you like that. A bit of a stretch maybe but from what you're saying a necessary a stretch.

I traded my 10/22 for a leather jacket but still have my Glock 17.

I have never heard hardly any of those opinions from foreigners. Some don't make any sense, for instance American English is easier to understand than many British or Australian dialects.
Apart from the usual things like vulgar, fat, loud and uneducated, I have heard several people say they find Americans cold. I guess the coldness might be typical Anglo-Saxon. I know a Portuguese guy who has said the same thing about Australians, friendly, but cold. And I had the same impression in Britain.

Who are we to talk?

We're no better. Hell, we actually resorted to something as juvenile as Prohibition, and in doing so, basically constructed organized crime.

Moreover, we still haven't learned our lesson. Now it's drug prohibition that's burying the country. But i guess building a million new prisons makes more sense than taxing a bottle of booze to death.

And don't even get me started on Dry Counties.
