There is a video in the link. According to details in the story, the pedestrian had the walk light and the NYPD officer had a green signal (it doesn't specify if it was a green turn arrow or a regular green signal).
I was always under the impression that pedestrians had the right of way. Is this not true?
Interesting points from the story
Medrano is the cop
Coss is the pedestrian
Quote:
Following up on a witness statement that Medrano was on her cell phone at the time of the crash, the Internal Affairs Bureau subpoenaed her phone records
Quote:
The Coss family’s attorney, Andrew Levine, says NYPD and the city have resisted providing materials relevant to the case, including witness statements, which the city has failed to surrender despite two court orders.
I am gonna guess there is something more to the story if the NYPD is withholding evidence even after being ordered by court to turn it over.
Surprising that 3 years later this has basically went nowhere.
It is obvious to me looking at this video that she is at fault. Apparently she was not looking where she was going. He was in plain sight when she started her turn and should have seen him before making the turn.
If someone greases a pedestrian in a crosswalk here in NV, that pedestrian had better have darted in front of the car out of the blue. The law is very clear. Crosswalks are marked and have flashing amber lights. Approach with caution, if there's a walker anywhere near that crosswalk, best be prepared to stop.
What about Al Sharpton's daughter? How quickly was that resolved?
El Nox
If you mean the $5M sprained ankle lawsuit against NYC, it was still ongoing as of last December. However, her claim of ongoing disability appears to be undermined by photos showing she appears to be hale and hearty.
