This child is +/- 30 months old. We have no inkling of her environment. You want her to discern and describe something not familiar to her in a split second? A picture in a book and an actual being in front of one's eyes are 2 different things. How many words do 2 year olds know?
I don`t blame the child of course....but it seems whites are the most common race who tend to see people as `strange`` and `different`. I grew up and live in a majority non white country and we never (NOT EVEN ONCE) asked the odd few whites in our class while growing up any strange questions about their skin, eye colour, freckles etc. Why do these incidents usually happen to whites?
I even met a white girl in university in North America who said a guy couldn't be Native American because he didn't have a beard!! Why is this type of "oops sorry I made a booboo I'm not exposed to other races" stuff acceptable from whites?
A 7 year old saying it is not racism, just being a 7 year old. An adult repeating it is bordering on functioning retarded.
Why? Why would people call themselves African then be offended when somebody asks if they come from Africa?????

Curiosity kills the cat. In no way is being curious or asking questions, a racist remark, any adult who feels this way about a seven yr old has major problems!
Guess what, children learn by being curious, and most normal adults, answering their questions of concern.
Children from black and white families, are going to be curious about the opposite race. As an adult, relative, or friend, you answer them, in the most intelligent way you can, in which as a child they understand.
