You are becoming Mexico? You have great public schools and likely the best public university system in the country.
Yup, sounds just like Mexico. I mean, who would choose to go to Berkely when you could go to La Universidad de Monterrey?
Your public schools are meh and heading the wrong direction.
The universities etc. will be just fine because you don't have to take all comers due to admission standards.....until their budgets start getting slashed or your state goes bankrupt.
However, you are completely missing the point. When you spend yourself into oblivion and wreck the states economy with high unemployment, the rich still get to attend Berkley and good schools....and the poor are kicked to the curb.
You have high unemployment and businesses fleeing the state coupled with massive deficits. Yep, nothing to worry about....nothing at all.
I don't care, I still love it here! And if you hate California, don't live here... simple as that.
I don't hate California, I'm just pointing out the economic realities of the state.
It is an especially wonderful state to live in if you are well educated and affluent as you don't have to compete with illegals for various jobs. Now, if you are a blue collar guy in certain professions, you are pretty screwed via either direct job competition or wage deflation.

I believe I would choose La Universidad de Monterrey over Berkely. The only problem is that it might not be as heavily subsidized with taxpayer dollars.
Definitely for the citizens of Mexico, one of their own universities would be the better option. Mexico -- contrary to what the illegals claim -- has some fine universities.
It's painfully obvious that the powers in office in the state of California do not want anyone to talk about how shocking the numbers are.
What do you mean officials in California "do not want anyone to talk about how" bad the situation is? You haven't been paying attention. Governor Arnold talked about it, frequently. Governor Brown has talked about little else.

Exactly. I live in California and I love the weather and the beauty of it but it doesn't make me a hater to point out its flaws. The libs have dragged this state economically into the ground. We are overflowing with illegal aliens while Californians are out of work just like the rest of the nation. Our taxes are going through the roof supporting them also. Our state is broke! You are right this has been devastating to our blue collar workforce. I blame the feds also for the latter for not securing our borders and removing all incentives for illegals to remain or to come here.

Yes, and I recognize that illegal immigration can be an economic winner for some states. However, for some states that have been so inundated especially with people with many younger children that their costs for guaranteed k-12 type services have exploded.
No one will do anything because they are courting voters, especially for the future. Ironically, the hardest hit by this tend to be african americans and unions.....ka thump ka thump.....thrown under the bus but there is no political risk because they won't vote republican so it's not like you will lose their votes....and many top leaders have super strong political ties so the donations and support will still roll in.
Still dreaming of the day i can afford to retire in Santa Barbara.
