A new book by an ex-CIA spook claims that Cuban dictator Fidel Castro knew about Lee Harvey Oswald's plot to assassinate President John F. Kennedy and did nothing to stop it.

Author Brian Latell was the agency's former national intelligence officer for Latin America and is now a senior research associate in Cuban American studies at the University of Miami.

In the upcoming volume, "Castro's Secrets: The CIA and Cuba's Intelligence Machine," Latell writes that on Nov. 22 1963, Castro ordered his intelligence officers in Havana to drop their normal responsibilities and pay close attention to communications coming out of Texas — "any little detail small detail from Texas," The Miami Herald reported.

Latell also writes that Oswald became frustrated after Cuban embassy officials denied his attempts to travel there, and told Cuban intelligence officials he would kill Kennedy to prove his allegiance to Castro and the communists.

So Castro knew and didn't tip Kennedy off? That's just dirty. Sure the CIA tried to assassinate Castro several times, but you'd think that Castro had more class and manners than this. Shame on him for not letting the gringo who was trying to overthrow his government and kill him know what Oswald was up to.

No worse than other scumbags we've supported/allied ourselves with, Stalin, The Shah, Marcos, Pinochet, South Vietnamese 'leaders', etc., etc., etc

If Cuba had oil we would've hopped right in the sack with him.

He's definitely wins the "best in class" award. Don't get me wrong -- I'd take the worst US president over the best dictator, but if I had to be ruled by a dictator ... I'd like it to be a dude who rolls around in the countryside in a jeep and collects televisions to be repaired. Castro might lock you up for a few years for political dissent, but he'd do so with a heavy heart, and he'd have a nice long talk with you explaining his actions and at least pretending to listen to your side of things.

JFK was assassinated because people in our own government/military wanted him dead.
