As Republicans go, this is a good egg. She has always tried to work with both sides to reach compromise and was the most powerful state senator. She has admonished her fellow republicans many times for their unwillingness to negotiate and they are getting worse.

National trend? These Republicans may cost us the Vikings as well as they seem intent on blocking any stadium initiative that DFL Governor Dayton tries. It's partisan politics every day, all day from the GOP.

I don't know whether to applaud for her or weep for the fact that being crazy is becoming a necessity to lead the nation and that the sane ones are the ones disgusted and leaving.

This is an incredibly stupid thread.

A GOP state senator is stepping down, and YOU blame in on the GOP? Good lord, how do you people come up with comical stuff like this?

And as for the VikeQueens... We're already paying for a new baseball stadium for multi-millionaires to play in. Why do we need to ALSO pay for a new football stadium for a bunch of other spoiled multi-millionaires to play in? Why the heck can't the VikeQueens play at the TCF Stadium at the U of M? It's what, all of 2 miles from the Metrodome? And it's brand new.

How many more corporate and property tax increases is it going to take before we just start leaving the Twin Cities? Then what do you have?

I'm pretty sure she is stepping down because of her own party so I think it's pretty relevant to what is going on in the country right now. Partisan politics is ruining the process. I guess that's what the point of the thread is, sorry if you think it's stupid.

Regarding the Vikings, seems you are not a fan but are a resident. I'm sure you have read all the pros and cons of a new stadium. The White Earth Band of native Americans has offered to pay the entire State portion of the stadium in exchange for the right to build a casino and share the income of that casino 50/50 with the state. Could be 1 billion in revenue the first two years for the state! GOP blocking it. You can't make it up.

I feel bad for her. She's a Republican and a decent human being, not something you can do these days. You have to be hateful against gays and Latinos and believe women are basically chattel to be controlled by men. Olympia Snowe, the Senator from Maine, is retiring this year because she is also sickened by what extremists the Republican party have become. The Tea Partiers are too stupid to realize they are alienating women from all walks of life with their anti female rhetoric. Rush Limbaugh calling a woman a **** for having sex before marriage is not only tolerated, it was roundly cheered by his fans. Being bigoted sexist garbage paid short term dividends for the Tea Party in 2010 but those psychotic last remnants of the Jim Crow era are dying off and being replaced by young people who respect women and minorities as human beings.

The devil is in the details. You need to study the details.

And don't be fooled. All these massive municipal projects ALWAYS come back on the property tax payers. ALWAYS.

I'm as much of a Vikings fan as the next guy. But we built the crybabies the downtown dome they demanded. Why was it that, less than 5 years later, they were crying about not wanting to play there anymore? Bunch of Divas...

To unstupidify your belief system, why do you think she is calling it over?
