Well, we can't get young adults today to grow the hell up and support themselves, so kids might as well stay attached to mom's boob permanently too.
It's a dumb picture though... it pretty much says: I'm hypersexual and I'm totally letting my way too old kid suck my ****... and you can't do anything about it because this is America damnit and I can be twisted if I want to!
Why not do a more nurturing motherly picture? There are benefits to breastfeeding up to age 3, and it doesn't have to be skanky... because after all, breastfeeding ISN'T sexual!!!!
(edit) then again, maybe that's what Time wants us to think about the issue...
I support breastfeeding.
Can someone tell me what the benefits are past the first six months to a year?
Comfort and closeness. Babies like to nurse. They like the skin to skin contact and the taste of the milk. Three years is a year too long for me personally but there's nothing particularly wrong with it. Babies and children simply want to held quite a bit when they're young. Extended nursing is just one way to help them feel loved which is essential for healthy growth and development.

Primarily nutritional supplementation, cost effectiveness.
Especially in poorer countries e.g. Bangledesh
Some say it can even help prevent diabetes type II later, but
since most type II is directly related
to overeating, I don't see how breastfeeding would inhibit that.
"Studies done in rural Bangladesh have shown that breastmilk continues to be an important source of vitamin A in the second and third year of life"
Yep, we're circling the drain. I can't wait for these coddled spawn to be America's leaders! Just can't wait!
All five of my sons were breastfed and they are all fine, self-supporting adults with good jobs.
The two who are parents (they each have two daughters) are wonderful, nurturing, and involved fathers.
The youngest, who will be seventeen next month and who breastfed the longest of all of my kids (almost four), is a popular kid who gets excellent grades and who is planning on enlisting in the Coast Guard.
So, what's your point?
