A 2011 report by the Fraser Institute concluded that Canada’s health care system is spending at an unsustainable rate. Six of ten Canadian provinces are on track to spend half of their revenues on health care, according to the institute.

“We conclude that Canada’s health system produces rates of growth in health spending that are not sustainable solely through redistributive public financing,” the report concluded.

In 2011, health care spending consumed 50 percent of revenues in Canada’s two largest provinces, Ontario and Quebec.

By 2017, four more provinces — Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and New Brunswick — will spend half of their revenues on health care, according to the institute.

Total federal, provincial and territorial government health spending has grown by 8.1 percent annually, while the national GDP in Canada rose by only 6.7

They know, I have relatives and friend there. They hid the cost of free health care in the cost of utilities, fuel and sales taxes, but it isn't any good.
They I hear are going to go away from the socialized medicine model and have already fired tons of government workers and reduced benefits (hand outs) from the taxpayer.

Canada is getting it done and turning it around, when will we?

People like your freinds and relatives need to think about the alternative to so-called "free" or socialized medicine which is the idea of having nothing beyond what they can afford. There are a lot of Americans who feel no responsibility for paying for some one elses heart disease , cancer, alzheimers or diabettes and actually resent being asked to do so. Canadians need to think hard about this issue and show a little humanity in making their choice. After all they don't want to end up like us down here in the States. or do they?

Oh Canada! Thanks for the laugh. "Redistributive Public Financing" is much funnier that "Taxes".

Fraser Institute, eh?

Canadian English orthography varies from the American: in Canada, that's how they spell "Cato".

Why should government be allowed to raid my wallet to pay for someone else's healthcare and in the process allow me less of my earnings to pay for my own?

Charity is voluntary. Socialized government programs are forced and no different than being held up at gunpoint. The day Obamacare is fully enacted is the day my voluntary donations to my local children's hospital cease.

Resentful at being asked or being FORCED? Eff Obamacare!

Do you grasp the concept of paying premiums for insurance you may never collect or file a claim against? Do you grasp the concept of paying money in the form of taxes to a fire company to put a fire that may never burn your house down? We let government or an insurance company have some of our money because in the great Dice game of life its comforting to know that if you throw snake eyes the game is not over for good! I bet you would be one of the first in line if things tern out badly for that government emergency aid and those free meals!
