That's awful, as if being raped wasn't bad enough for the patient. Too many medical professionals have absolutely no idea how to deal with patients who have just been the victim of a sexual assault crime or other type of crime.
LOL.
Now you people are just acting as propagandist.
What part of:
Quote:
Medical Care
The purpose of the SANE examination of the
sexual assault victim is specifically to assess, document,
and collect forensic evidence. In addition,
prophylactic treatment of STDs and prevention of
pregnancy are provided by the SANE following a
pre-established medical protocol or with the
approval of a consulting physician. While the
SANE may treat minor injuries, such as washing
and bandaging minor cuts or abrasions, further
evaluation and care of any major physical trauma is
referred to the ED or a designated medical facility.
The YWCA SANE program is a collaboration between the YWCA, Metro Area Law Enforcement, Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office, and three Medical Centers: Midwest Regional, Integris Southwest and Integris Baptist.
Is so difficult to understand? What's more likely is that she was directed to go to a SANE facility and the mother and her daughter felt even more victimized because they just couldn't understand (like some of the propagandist in here) that there is a program setup to help the victims and to catch the perp.
The fact that this was already posted in this thread and some people are still going off on a tangent completely ignoring the fact that the hospital did reply and said they were performing an investigation is just decietful. The only thing you people have is a one-sided story and you folks don't give a flying crap about anything else.
Does it even matter to any of you that you're so against religion and in the GD story she received the proper SANE treatment from Integris BAPTIST?
Find another Doctor and a really greedy lawyer to punish the first bastard for putting his religion ahead of treating his duty to his patient.
Oh lookie, another ignorant uninformed post. The "Doctor" who you think was a male was a female but since you never did one bit of investigating you totally missed that part.

I'm talking about on an emotional level. ETA: I am not arguing against religion. I'm just arguing that this particular doctor was way out of line, for reasons that particular doctor admitted to being on a religious basis, but I am not knocking down all religious people or institutions. I'm glad the patient was able to get care elsewhere, but I think it's horribly insensitive to make someone run to another hospital when they've just been raped.
The article says that there were no SANE staff available. From the OP's article:
Quote:
The woman and her daughter were reportedly turned away because the hospital did not have any nurses who conduct rape exams on staff.
It's great they have specially-trained staff to conduct rape kits, and it's unfortunate none were available that night. In spite of that, I think all medical professionals should be trained on some level in how to be sensitive to patients that have been sexually assaulted. They should be trained on some level to work with patients who have a variety of personal needs. Medicine is not just about diagnosing and treating. It's about bedside manner and making your patients feel like they are in a safe place where they can heal physically and emotionally.

You folks are taking one side of the story and running with it. Do you think maybe the victim took what the nurse said in the wrong way considering they were both Integris Hospitals but the only Integris hospital that had trained SANE nurses was Integris Baptist?
It doesn't really matter any other reasons. Integris is investigating and whenever that investigation is concluded we'll get the real story and if there was something done that was wrong I'm sure there will be consequences.

Till then it's all just guessing and ASSuming.
Read what I said. I'm not using this incident to knock religion at all. I know it was for religious reasons in the case of this doctor, but for me, I am opposed to the way the doctor treated the patient--regardless of what her reasons were. Please stop assuming that I'm making the same argument as the article, about religious people/Republicans all being evil, cause I'm not. I take issue with the fact the patient was mistreated--exactly what the mother was saying in the video. I agree 100% with the mother.

WTH is wrong with you folks?
They are inSANE.
I agree that the referal to the other hospital was entirely appropriate. This rape victim did receive the medical care and emergency contraception she sought. This linked article in the OP is a blatant hit piece against Catholic run hospitals.
It's pretty disgusting how you reply to people by telling them to shut up. In case you have been living under a rock (or in Oklahoma) for the last year, access to contraception has become a political issue.
And his whole premise COMPLETELY rolls right off your back......amazing
"The young woman asked the doctor whether or not emergency contraceptives were available and whether the doctor was simply refusing to provide them. The nurse told her “I will not give you emergency contraceptives because it goes against my belief.” The doctor refused to help her, even though she had just been raped, and refused to find another doctor to help her."
...and people wonder why I have such a disdain for religion. It gives cover for vile acts such as this.
She can always find a new doctor, but she can also take some responsibility and keep the child. But I'm pretty sure this fake and propaganda to attack Christian hospitals.
