I live in the far western fringe of the Philly and listen to WPHT mornings( Chris Degall has a good show). Either that or 770 AM out of NYC to listen to Imus. Day time talk is lousy with Limbaugh and I can get him on my local AM station although I listen to alternative hosts on other stations. Local hosts until 1 PM, then Laura Ingraham. Then sometimes Hannity.
WPHT has an interesting history. Its parent company is Bosley I believe and owns a station that was all talk, WWDB 96.5. Then the day of the 2000 election they switched to dance music. Can you believe how stupid that was? A huge election controversy and a great talk radio station is switched over to dance music. Morons. They've switched formats a few times since and never get great ratings. But the whole of Philly has a pretty crappy radio siganture and is now dominated by the suburbs. A long standing classic rock station switched to sports talk last year. Philly is not a music town, its mostly garbage now. On a side note, I've found a great new station in the Philly burbs (KOP) 1180 AM WFYL. I'm listening to a late broadcast of AM coast to coastright now and later cna listen to Michael Savage in the afternoons. Eastern PA may not have music, but we have about the best talk radio both locally and nationally syndicated.
Michael Smerconish. I call him the quasimodo of MSNBC. A little quisling turncoat chasing money( hey like Ed Schultz!) and fame and he'll bow and grovel at anybodys feet if he can make some $$$$ out of it. A self absorbed little narcassist. Naturally he'd end up associated with MSNBC although I don't think they'll ever truly accept him and I think he knows it. His show stinks besides. Too much banter with his groupies and self promotion and his local fan base has shrunk. He goes back to WWDB and at one time was a solid conservative host. Not the best on the station but respectable. They still have Dom Giordano whos not bad.
“The station change in Philadelphia has already been discussed by CBS, and it has nothing to do with a tiny petition. Rush’s audience in Philadelphia is 200,000 weekly. Moveon.org is simply incapable of honesty.”
MM and stink progress as well. That's really all they do now.

For cryin' out loud. What, exactly, did you expect Limbaugh's spokesman to say? That his boss screwed up and is now paying the price? Get real.
I've read several versions of why Rush was dropped, but no matter what is said, it all boils down to economics. Commercial radio station owners do what the do to make money, period. Every other explanation is ripe tripe.

It's "paying a price" to move from AM to FM?
Only in your narrow world. The rest of us recognized about 50 years ago that FM is where maistream radio resides.
