They can improve their inferior schools.
They can move to a better school district
They can get a second job to afford private school
The answers aren't easy, and wont be solved by folks complaining about equal opportunity.. the parents that truly care about their child's education do something about it while the others cry about equal opportunity.

Not enough money ? Nope..failing schools still fail.
Let's try the students...well sorry but you can't expel them even if they have been to jail and come back. You cannot segregate them either.
You can't get the bad kids out of the system and give the good kids a chance to learn.
Gangs, drugs, crime along with an "I don't care" attitude towards school.
The parents of these kids are no better..that is if you could EVER get in touch with them.
Those parents that care are stuck there. I feel sorry for them.
When you're working all day at a crappy low wage job, you can't home school your kid and you certainly can't send your kid to a private school unless your kid is good enough to get a full scholarship.
I was #2 in my class and got a 50% scholarship (the school had a few 50% scholarships provided by alumni) to a parochial high school, but obviously the vast majority of kids don't have that option.
And yes, liberals are to blame for denying more options for school choice.

The USA does not have a cast system unlike Great Britain. Parents can be upwardly mobile, as can their children, when they have a mind to do so. The opportunity exists if people choose to work hard to attain that which they want.

I work with some home schooled graduates. They are nothing to brag about.
So you equate equal opportunity with becoming rich?
Why doesn't equal opportunity mean being able to climb the ladder one step at a time?
Once you reach the first rung you are on your way. If you strive for something else, you can usually get there, if you work hard enough.
That's all that opportunity means.
You are not supposed to be given wealth. You have to earn it. And everyone has the same shot at it.
