As for what is happening to these people? Easy. They're taking synthetic drugs illegally and because these synthetics are becoming worse and worse concoctions, there are more terrible side effects. Time and time again, the government is making x-drug illegal, so these manufacturers are changing up their formulas to bypass and slide through the loopholes.

This is a very valid point.
It's also true that marijuana has been engineered towards greater potency over the years, however it's nowhere near as bad as the synthetic *stuff*.
You also have natural things like hallucinogenic mushrooms etc.
I'm just cautioning that there is a lot of stuff out there that is 100% natural that can really fudge you up and it doesn't make it safe.
Being honest, I can say I did try K2 one time and it was nowhere near a marijuana feeling. Did not relieve any of my back pain (which was why I tried it, thinking it would have been something akin to medicinal marijuana plus it was legal at the time here) but it did make me a weird kind of paranoid and apologetic as hell (I.E. thinking of ways to apologize to the E.R. Doctor if I went). I did not become violent or anything but I can tell you that 1 time was enough to say stay the hell away from it. I would not even call it synthetic marijuana. I am for marijuana on medicinal and free use issues but make this synthetic crap a Schedule 1.

I would never dream of eating shrooms. Hallucinating would not be my idea of fun. Funny though, they do consider weed a mild halucinogen. Probably because it tends to distort perception, time, and sometimes colors. I don't know why, but the color purple always seems to stand out more to me when I've toked.
