This guy was clearly an idiot! It was obvious that he was looking for trouble.. I mean he went and confronted his neighbor with a damn video-camera and a gun! Who normally does things like that?

Plus during the trial all of the witnesses, which included his ex-wife, neighbors and coworkers, said he was a bully that liked to feel in power. He deserves to go to jail for a long time.

These so called Stand Your Ground laws need to be repealed or at the very least significantly changed. If you shoot somebody, you should have to show that you had very good reason for doing so. And the laws should specifically state that, if you instigate or initiate what results in a shooting then you cannot use the SYG law as a defense. And that, if the other party is unarmed, you will be presumed to be the party at fault although if you did not instigate the fight, you can use self defense (like if a 300 lb guy comes up and starts pounding on a 90 lb woman and she shoots him dead). This is not Dodge City anymore and we don't need gunfights on Main Street at high noon.

I have no sympathy for the victims. I'll say that flat-out.

Still, I'm willing to acknowledge that this man should be locked up... if (and only if) the police didn't have time to respond to the noise complaint. All this talk of other people "taking the law into their own hands". Well, if the police won't do it...

Let's see some examples of that. Do you have any besides this one, which is a particularly bad one and has nothing to do with SYG?

Of course you don't. You're just bleating talking points.

Here is a recent study by Texas A & M regarding SYG laws.
Study finds ‘stand your ground’ laws increase murder rates - Hot Topics - timesunion.com - Albany NY
One Texas legislator wants to change the present law to require homeowners to retreat even in their own home. Texas' Castle Doctrine will be under a microscope because of the Florida case and the case in Houston. Any changes in Texas Castle Doctrine law will have a slim chance of passing,....and 'ol Slim left town years ago.

And these are the idiots you cite?

OK, then.

I honestly wonder what these fools would think or do if their wives or daughters were forced to 'retreat even in their own homes'. They'd cry like all the other liberal babies that don't seem to understand that you're gonna pay the price if you fool with my stuff. Things change in a heartbeat when it happens to you or someone you care about.

As for me, though, I'd much prefer liberals did 'retreat'. It would serve their pansy azzes right.

Yes, they should just bend over and drop their pants to appease the poor misunderstood home invader.

I was just posting the latest study concerning SYG. It was only a single study, and I have no personal idea of the parameters.

If faced with a home invasion, the only retreating I'll do is IF the firearm is in the back of the home, and the intruder is in the front.

He was guilty.

He walked down to his neighbors house with a gun.

He wasn't standing on his own ground.

Let's ban food stamps because there are isolated incidents of defrauding the system.

Let's ban the PD because of some corrupt cops.

Let's ban the public school system because there are pockets of failing schools everywhere.

Let's ban Denny's because they once discriminated against black people.

Let's ban cars because there was a car crash at the very same moment I typed this.

Let's ban lakes because somebody drowned in one.

Let's ban fast food chains because some people cannot control themselves.

Let's ban text messages because people kill innocent people while driving and texting.

Let's ban cell phones because people cause accidents and kill people because they drive while talking.

Let's ban alcohol.

Let's ban alcohol.

Let's ban alcohol.
