No reason to take sides in that one, although if it were only Turkey v. Syria, Turkey would have at least some claim to humanitarian justification.

If those are the sides then it would really look more like this:

Syria + Russia + Iran + all other misc. islamic terrorist countries + N. Korea + maybe China

vs.

Turkey + Georgia + All of NATO incl. U.S., UK, EU., Israel

Gog and Magog anyone?

NATO = USA lol.

Turkey has a world class, technologically advanced military. They are a superpower in their region. They would destroy Syria in a few days if push came to shove. Turkey is one middle eastern country that has it's proverbial SH@T together both economically and militarily. The Turk Spec Ops are some of the most highly trained, best in the world. They rate up there with Spetznaz, SEALs, Delta, SAS etc.

The EU is bankrupt. The US is bankrupt and despite what the talking head politicians and pundits tell you our military IS stretched way too thin right now to deal with a major regional war involving superpowers. Russia and China not only have HUGE vast resources and wealth in the form of oil, trees, minerals, gas, etc. They have the industry to keep churning out equipment in the case of a huge regional or global war. US manufacturing is dead. Before we even got our factories up and running we'd be wiped out. As mighty as we are, our ENTIRE military infrastructure relies on a global economy. China and Russia can pretty much produce everything they need domestically, especially CHINA. US arrogance forgets that key piece when discussing war with China or Russia. Russian aerospace industry is one of the best in the world. The SU27 with a well trained pilot would go toe to toe with anything the US has. Including the overpriced junk F22.

You can thank the politicians and corporations for destroying the USA from the inside out.

You believe a country flying out dated F4s without the counter measures to evade SAMs technologically advanced? And I don’t believe there is a special operations unit in any other country that can compare to our tier 1 units (Delta, Seal 6, etc.)

I do believe you when you say our military is over stretched but if a large scale conventional war broke out there’s not a country who could beat us (allies included)… With the SU27 not being stealthy our Air Force and Navy would have a turkey shoot on their hands. Every other pilot might make ace…

Turkey vs. Syria?

Turkey Has the 7th largest Airforce in the world, Syria the 17th
Turkey Has the 6th largest Navy in the world, Syria the 47th

Even though the plane shot down was an F4, Turkey has top line US aircraft including F16s and F35s and AWACs, with the former being built on License in Turkey.

Syria has a mostly Russian Airforce and we know what happens when Russian Planes go against US planes.

As far as the US being out of date and being stretched too thin in Iraq and Afganastan. The only reason why we are stretched thin there is because we have troops on the ground. In a "conventional" war we could easily incapacitate China and Russia combined without setting foot on the ground. we don't have to invade them to defeat them.

The US has an Airforce as large as the next 7 countries combined.
The US has a Navy as large as the next 4 countries combined.
All recently battle proven unlike our potential Foes.
Operational bases in every corner of the world for our planes to fly from. As many Carriers as the rest of the world combined.

Even if the Chinese Airforce is as good as the Russian Airforce we could have a 1:1 kill ratio and still down all of their Aircraft. Most likely it would be more than a 10:1 kill ratio as evidenced by the last 50 years of US vs Soviet Aircraft.

We are down the list when it comes to some ground weapons and total troops but when you control the sky and you have taken out their oil/gas reserves, tranportation lines and have destroyed their ability to bring the battle to you, their ground weapons and troops lose any effectiveness.

Total Land-Based Weapons by Country
I agree with most of what you said but does Turkey really have operational F35s in service... I was unaware of any of our allies taking delivery yet... I know the UK is going to have their ari craft carriers built and operational before they get their F35s...
