All I can say is... What the crap? If a kid wants to learn about the Loch Ness Monster, they can use Wikipedia... it isn't worth our tax money.
Unfortunately, it's not just Louisiana. This is the type of garbage thinking that we have throughout the 'Buybull' belt.
Dilusional fools like this, shouldn't be allowed to force feed this kind of crap to their children. ESPECIALLY when these so called 'schools' are accepting public tax payer dollars.
There's a reason why we call the period when churches ruled, The Dark Ages.

I think the schools should be able to teach things like that, IF they take NO taxpayer dollars and it's DISCLOSED that their curriculum will be different from the public school curriculum. The taxpayer dollars is what gets me here.
On the flip side a small Catholic school near me had upper 90% graduation from college including some of the best Universities in the country. They had to close because of lack of funding. Note I said college, graduation rate from the school itself was 100%.
Having said that it appears there is no where to go but up compared to the public schools there:

Whether this gambit will help move Louisiana from the bottom of math and science rankings in the country is unclear. A 2011 study of how well primary education prepares students for engineering careers had Louisiana third from the bottom, with only West Virginia and Mississippi performing worse.

Correct. As soon as this school accepts even one dollar of public taxpayer money, it is no longer a 'private' school.
Public tax money can not under any circumstance, be used to support a religious belief.

Unfortunately a lot of Catholic Schools have been closed down here in Philly. No one is suggesting that they were bad schools. Just outside of Philly on The Main Line is a Jewish Academy that is outstanding in getting it's graduates in the very finest Ivy League universities, but it cannot be financed using taxpayer money.
Taxpayer funds can't support private religious parochial schools, however. If that would happen then you would have to subsidize Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Fundamentalist Christian, etc. schools as well.
School vouchers have been a GOP target for a long time. It's supposed to be what saves education in this country.
Mitt Romney thinks it's a great idea....except that he sometimes uses words like "scholarship" or "choice" to describe the transfer of tax dollars to private schools.
Want more of this kind of stupidity? Vote Republican!
