But, it does take a progressive to get the point.

Each adult to pay a fixed amount.

Take the cost of running government. Divide by number of adults from census taken every 2 years. That's your taxable amount. You can make special exclusions - disabilities, etc.

Make taxes exclusive from what people earn.

You want low taxes, keep the cost of government low. Are you concerned about the poor's ability to pay taxes? Keep government costs down or give them the tools to keep up financially. Or family or a private individual can help them out directly.

Nothing taken from an employer's check. Send it in separately.

No loopholes. No ceiling for gift amounts. No tax credit for business lunches. No filling out forms or hiring tax accountant (oops just put them out of business).

To me, that's about as fair as you can get - 1 adult, 1 tax.

So, you'd settle for top 25% still paying substantially more as long as tax rates on the bottom 75% is increased. Correct?

Slightly higher? Not by any stretch of the imagination. They pay a tax burden that is GROSSLY out of proportion to their earnings. WAY TOO HIGH in comparison to their share of the income.

I would. Nothing wrong with a progressive system.

It works for who, again? Arm-chair policy making aside, I can't wait to see Romney run on "let us raise the tax rates on bottom 75% platform". Can't wait to see it.

Because, clearly the right wing cares more about raising taxes on those who make less, even if they can still hold the grudge that top 25% pay 65-70% of the taxes.

And if you notice - because of tax credits (not tax cuts) the government is giving money to the lower 40% - and the top 60% is paying 110% of the individual income tax burden.

I think that the bottom 80% need to stop free loading and start paying "their fair share".

If someone has no "skin in the game", they will have no vested interest in its outcome.

Good job on missing the point. Go visit some 3rd/developing countries where there's a big gap between the rich and poor. You'll come back with a different understanding.

The feds also give plenty of money towards local law enforcement and education. To boot, most taxes are progressive at the city and county level.

I'll go with 5 - Stupid poll. Setting tax rates for the top 25% of taxpayers based upon the aggregate of what the top 25% of taxpayers make would be impossible to do. The top marginal tax rate is far from high in this country and only kicks in at close to 400k. Taxes in the United States are very competitive for a first world country.

Oddly, most of the people you see whining about this on the internet will never have a chance to hit the top category.
