Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson, a Democrat, has accused Chicago-based Accretive Health (AH), one of the nation’s largest collectors of medical bills, of violating patient privacy and debt collection laws. Among Accretive’s alleged tactics were putting employees in emergency rooms, demanding patients pay before receiving treatment, in what some have called “bedside pressure.”
Though Emanuel does not address the allegations or tactics, in his letter, he asks Swanson and her staff to back off what he described as an effort to “publicly prosecute
