I'm sorry this guy has to be nominated. How do you leave your girl and two small kids in the theater and get in your car and drive off. Thankfully a young black teenager was there to help escort his family to safety as he was circling the block.

Quote:
He said he crawled on top of the woman in an attempt to push her and the kids out the door and was shot in the thigh while protecting them.
'It felt like a sharp pain,' he told 'Good Morning America'. 'When I tried to move my left leg, I went down. I looked at my hand and I noticed there was bleeding. That's when I knew it was real.'
But Mr Brooks said he doesn't consider himself a hero for helping Ms Legarreta escape the spray of bullets.
'I saw someone in distress,' he said. 'I'm not the kind of person who would let them be in that situation and me selfishly trying to get myself out of the equation... all she's trying to do is protect her kids, so I felt like if I could get her out, then maybe, I would have gotten out maybe I wouldn't, as long as I knew she was OK I was alright.'
Before the mother-of-two encountered Mr Brooks, she said her daughter had fallen over because she was disorientated after falling asleep during the movie. She said she attempted to shield the little girl from the gunfire.

Then he proposed and his loser girlfriend said yes. Yes, this guy is right up there for coward of the year. Brings helpless babies to a crowded theater and then runs for his life leaving those helpless babies behind when something goes wrong.

No one knows how they'd react to an emergency situation until it happens. Many boyfriends in that theater lost their lives shielding their girfriend's body with their own. This guy reacted by running for his own life. Some of you who put him down may react just like him in the same situation. If he's ever in the same situation, he may react differently. I saw guys trained to fight fires freeze in a panic at their first real fire. We'd slap them back to their senses and get them moving to respond to the fire. Next time there was a real fire, they didn't hesitate nor freeze in a panic. Yes, the right thing for him to have done was protect his wife and children. But until you've been in his situation, you don't know how you'd react.

I disagree. The actions of the other people in the theater is a perfect example of what MOST people would do. Young men threw themselves over their girlfriends! This guy abandoned his CHILDREN! He put the baby on the floor because it was crying and he was afraid it would bring attention to HIM! These are his own words. Freezing in panic in a situation where the people involved are not your family is DIFFERENT! Also, have you ever heard of people NOT acting brave in similar situations? I haven't. This is the first I ever heard of a person doing something like this. A younger kid helps to save his girlfriend and kids while HE DROVE AWAY.
